NC State travel to Durham to take on the Duke Blue Devils March 28th - March 30th

Fridays game will be shown on the ACC Network. 1st pitch is scheduled for 8 PM

Friday 3/28 8 PM ACCN L 5-1
Saturday 3/29 3 PM ACCNX W 14-6
Sunday 1 PM ACCNX L 16-6
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Healy dominated us last year in 2 starts. 3 hits in 10 innings.

Yeah I don't feel good about this weekend at all lol

The hope against him this year vs last is that we aren't nearly as left handed

I guess that's somethingโ€ฆ. The first two acc series were kind of warm ups for tougher tests to come, and I think they highlighted a lot of the things we were seeing early that were issues. To your point - we need a phenomenal outing on the mound from our starters to be in games, and that will be difficult to sustain as the competition really ramps up from here. Hope the guys figure it out and it clicks soon, but man, there's a lot to be concerned about at the moment. Need the bats to come to life, and several pitchers to refind their mojo.

We really need that first game tonight. Gonna be tough to get any wins in Durham this weekend.

Couldn't agree more. On paper in the preseason, it was hard to see a world where State would lose a game with the lead or within a run in the 6th. I've always thought in the ACC that run total per game needs to be around 6-8.

I mean we were/are still (I guess) looking at Fritton - Shaffner - Dudan on Friday. Andrews - Consiglio - Smith on Saturday. Marohn - Shaffner - Dudan - Smith (anyone really) on Sunday. That should dominate teams almost every weekend.

Instead the bullpen hierarchy has become Shaffner - Nance -----------------> Dudan and hang on for your life. The best bullpen in the country preseason to this is a wild changeup.

As Ethan mentioned in the pod with James Dudan is coming on. Been way better the last 6 appearances. I'm with him on this one. Smith seems like he's getting closer as well.

Ethan and I heavily disagree here. I don't think he's been good in any appearances this year against teams of consequence. Conference WHIP is 2.40 with a walk rate of 33%. I don't particularly want to go back and count but I'd be willing to bet that he's thrown 2x more balls than strikes.

Am I glad that he looked decent against Campbell, Wright State, and Davidson? Yeah of course - those teams are all under .500 though and outside of Wright State (maybe) will not sniff the tournament. Then there's the VT debacle and Pitt where he literally couldn't throw a strike. The eye test is not there, and the stuff is not competitive against decent offenses.

I'm the biggest optimist you'll meet when it comes to State baseball, and I'm just not seeing it right now on multiple fronts. I hope like hell I'm wrong and even more so hope we see Derrick Smith in some real work this weekend.

Yea I agree here on Dudan, he hasn't looked right all year in games I have watched him pitch besides the game he started against Campbell. He has been a ticking time bomb anytime he gets the ball this year.

That's about the 4th just straight up mental/not ready to play error in the last 10 innings.

I mean, that one's kind of understandable. McHugh thought he took ball four, and the ump wasn't exactly immediate in his strike three.

It's not excusable at all to miss a steal sign and step in front of the catcher.

ETA: plus he was walking back to the dugout not 1st base. He knew he K'd
