Yep he made him work to a 3-0 count and then threw him the exact pitch he was looking for.
A fastball without movement that sits around 89 is going to get absolutely crushed with this command.
I must've missed Highfill being hyped somewhere. He's a proven high level pitcher. Doesn't mean he'll have it every day. Doesn't even mean he'll be the Friday starter all year.

Changeup looks very very good. Get the FB command down and I think he will be alright.

Preseason awards lists. Draft lists. Etc. See Cozart, Jacob. Sam wasn't even being projected as a starter prior to Matt's injury. Two years ago he was hurt, and last year never really looked like he was completely back, so it's great he looked good in the fall. I'm just not going to be down on him in his first start based on that.

he is missing bats/getting a good bit of soft contact, but the command is still shaky. unlike sam, so hopefully it gets settled.
Great change up from the mayor. The off speed stuff was solid that inning.
Highfill's stuff is looking good. Changeup is a plus pitch right now just needs to find his fastball/curve control and he'll be fine.

Budrovich is not my favorite guy to have in the booth. He talks all the time and says very little. There's nothing wrong with dead air in a baseball game.
