This is probably weird but have you noticed how Fritton comes off the mound? I don't know how to explain it but he gets so low and stretched out. He gets everything into it. Maybe many pitchers do but it jumped out at me seeing pics of him last season. What do you think?

some more random thoughts on this lovely day off for Indigenous Peoples day (aka I'm bored)

pitching wise:

I think our weekend guys, in order, should be Fritton/Willadsen/ and 1 of Highfill, Fanning, Whitaker. Any of the Sunday guys could work, and are similar but different. All are strike throwers that should give you a chance on Sunday. Difference wise- Whitaker has the most experience over the last couple of years, while Fanning might provide a little bit more upside/ a tick better stuff. Highfill is of course the wildcard. But the early returns on Highfill are very solid, so if he is even close to 2021, he should be a weekend guy.

Out of the 2 who don't throw Sunday, they should fill the Baker Nelson (mid innings guys) and Justin Lawson role (late innings) with Van Dam being a backend guy too.

After those top 6- I think some midweek options are Win Scott, Halford, Shaffner. Can Shaffner continue to grow after a solid freshman campaign? Can Win Scott stay healthy? Can Halford stay healthy/harness his stuff? Some nice upside here.

The who knows- John Miralia, Carson Kelly, Labriola, Garrett Payne. Can Miralia carve out more than a specialist role? Carson Kelly, Labriola and Payne all have a decent amount of ACC innings but are primarily a mixed bag. Tough to count on Payne coming off of TJ, but do either Kelly or Labriola become consistent guys that can get outs? If not, we have other options.

The unknowns- freshmen, Dienes, Derrick Smith. Based on the early reviews, we will have a few freshmen compete for innings. Can Smith grow after a nice summer and earn innings? Can Dienes throw strikes and maybe be a needed lefty out of the pen?

Some fun question marks, but the upside for this pitching staff is absolutely there.

it definitely looks exaggerated in the still pictures, but watching him pitch it doesn't look out of the ordinary and he ends up in a decent fielding position. but exerting that effort with his legs USUALLY means less arm stress.

really intrigued to see his role this year though. he is a top 100 college prospect for the 2024 MLB draft, so putting him in that Friday role could mean he's top 5ish round pick which would be huge for this team.

Yeah looks identical other than the side. I was thinking it was a good thing. Gotta have strong legs and a strong core to do that. Especially over and over.

if nixon is our 2nd baseman, that is the most lefty hitters I have seen in a ncsu lineup.

Soles/Serrano/Cozart/Nixon/Nixon/Houge/Sosa all LHP

Butterworth/Pennington are the RHP
