Agreed. Big time. NC state baseball is probably my favorite team on campus, and these last 2 hears have been pitiful. Aside from that 2021 sweep, UNC has absolutely owned us. I think the Preston palmiero team was the last to beat UNC in a series?
Has a lot to do with them actually caring about baseball though. Look at their stadium. Look at their facilities.
Stadium and facilities are material things. Measurable things if you will. This team lacks the unmeasurable things. Heart, determination, will to win and passion. Just my .02ClePack said:Nairo said:

Yes, it will make the park better and, in some ways, it is already better, but I look at what UNC has -- and what the SEC works with -- and I am not sure that I see the Doak improvements being enough.
UNC razed Boshamer to the ground then rebuilt the whole thing (playing in Cary until it was finished). I kind of would like to see NC State do something similar.

We can't recruit with the big boys without those shiny toys.

This is a very cynical take, but we're going to spend $15MM basically for half a turf field, a players lounge and a couple of picnic tables in th outfield, and still be in the bottom third of the league as far as facilities. I'm hopeful we're holding something back for the new coach, whenever that time comes. Otherwise it's going to be a tough job to fill and expect any better results than we've gotten.ClePack said:WolfpackJack69 said:Stadium and facilities are material things. I thought the exact same thing about the recent improvements to Doak, when I first saw what was proposed. Well said...a "band aid". I remember posting in this forum back then that what is really needed (among other things) was a big improvement to the grandstand. Our stadium looks like a high school stadium, with that small grandstand.ClePack said:Rob McLamb said:Am I wrong to be somewhat concerned about the Doak improvements?ClePack said:Nairo said:

Yep. Great point. Doak is kind of having a band aid put on it. It's not really going to do anything to set us apart from any other teams. Will probably end up being a slight waste of resources.
At the end of the day, were we ever going to actually really try to upgrade our park enough to make a difference? I doubt it.
End of the day, our program will continue to be mediocre with some slightly exciting seasons baked in, probably.
When Doak is completely renovated, who will NC State have better facilities than?ClePack said:I see nothing wrong with your take. That's our future, as it stands.Nairo said:

I can give two for sure, Duke and Notre Dame. The former won the 2021 ACC title. The latter had the best ACC regular season record in 2021 and reached the CWS in 2022.
Maybe Wake Forest too? They are absolutely loaded this season.
I would love to hear from folks here as to what other schools that they think will have a park worse than Doak. This is an honest question, especially for those who have traveled to see NC State play at some of those places.
I had heard that BC was the only team with a worse facility than us, but I believe they have since renovated. We are probably in last now. If you count Duke's own field, yeah they are probably worse, but I guess they use the Bulls exclusively now.Rob McLamb said:When Doak is completely renovated, who will NC State have better facilities than?ClePack said:I see nothing wrong with your take. My dad graduated from unc-ch and I went to several games in Chapel Hill over the last few years with him. Their ball park is very impressive aesthetically, mainly because the grandstand is so big and nice.
I don't understand why we spent $15 million dollars (or whatever it was) and didn't address the grandstand. Couldn't a nice grandstand have been built for that amount of money? Frustrating.
Related to that....we need to "dress up" the facade of Carter-Finley. It can't be that expensive to do that. But it just sits there for decades looking like trash. I guess that's the NC State way....ignore the obvious problems, and do some half-assed attempt at improvements on something else that doesn't address the main issues, to make it look like we are trying.

Like Vandy, Uva and others Unc gives 27 to their baseball teams.
