At least after this we can accept it, and end all of that "if they just cut out all of the mistakes they've been making all year, etc" excuse stuff. It's just a bad team. You are what your record says you are.

I don't know about y'all but I'm sick and tired of losing to UNC in baseball. Those pansy asses should not have a better program than NC State. It's a blue collar, gritty and analytical sport, which are some of our defining characteristics as a university.

Agreed. Big time. NC state baseball is probably my favorite team on campus, and these last 2 hears have been pitiful. Aside from that 2021 sweep, UNC has absolutely owned us. I think the Preston palmiero team was the last to beat UNC in a series?

Has a lot to do with them actually caring about baseball though. Look at their stadium. Look at their facilities.

You play until the last out. You fight as long as there is at least some semblance of a chance. That is about as simple as it gets.

Can NC State rally tonight? Yes, but I am not betting on it.

Can NC State win Saturday and sweep Pitt? It is possible, so all a team can do is suit up and try.

If NC State does not make it, they only have themselves to blame. It is the simple fundamentals that have been the biggest thorn in their side this season.

And to the poster that mentioned that at the end of the season the record is what you are, that is spot on. There is no more hope or potential once the final chapter is written.

Am I wrong to be somewhat concerned about the Doak improvements?

Yes, it will make the park better and, in some ways, it is already better, but I look at what UNC has -- and what the SEC works with -- and I am not sure that I see the Doak improvements being enough.

UNC razed Boshamer to the ground then rebuilt the whole thing (playing in Cary until it was finished). I kind of would like to see NC State do something similar.

Yep. Great point. Doak is kind of having a band aid put on it. It's not really going to do anything to set us apart from any other teams. Will probably end up being a slight waste of resources.

At the end of the day, were we ever going to actually really try to upgrade our park enough to make a difference? I doubt it.

End of the day, our program will continue to be mediocre with some slightly exciting seasons baked in, probably.

This is a very cynical take, but we're going to spend $15MM basically for half a turf field, a players lounge and a couple of picnic tables in th outfield, and still be in the bottom third of the league as far as facilities. I'm hopeful we're holding something back for the new coach, whenever that time comes. Otherwise it's going to be a tough job to fill and expect any better results than we've gotten.

I thought the exact same thing about the recent improvements to Doak, when I first saw what was proposed. Well said...a "band aid". I remember posting in this forum back then that what is really needed (among other things) was a big improvement to the grandstand. Our stadium looks like a high school stadium, with that small grandstand.

My dad graduated from unc-ch and I went to several games in Chapel Hill over the last few years with him. Their ball park is very impressive aesthetically, mainly because the grandstand is so big and nice.

I don't understand why we spent $15 million dollars (or whatever it was) and didn't address the grandstand. Couldn't a nice grandstand have been built for that amount of money? Frustrating.

Related to that....we need to "dress up" the facade of Carter-Finley. It can't be that expensive to do that. But it just sits there for decades looking like trash. I guess that's the NC State way....ignore the obvious problems, and do some half-assed attempt at improvements on something else that doesn't address the main issues, to make it look like we are trying.

When Doak is completely renovated, who will NC State have better facilities than?

I can give two for sure, Duke and Notre Dame. The former won the 2021 ACC title. The latter had the best ACC regular season record in 2021 and reached the CWS in 2022.

Maybe Wake Forest too? They are absolutely loaded this season.

I would love to hear from folks here as to what other schools that they think will have a park worse than Doak. This is an honest question, especially for those who have traveled to see NC State play at some of those places.

I'd prefer to use the nearby state universities in the ACC as our peers for comparison. By that measure there is no one with facilities below ours. You can add ECU and CCU in there if you'd like too. If you added Wake and Notre Dame enrollments together it would still be less than half the size of NC State.

That is not accurate. The NCAA allows a maximum of 11.7 grants-in-aid for baseball, and that goes for every school. Those scholarships are broken into partials, which may be what you are referring to. But everyone does that.

"…Each NCAA division has its own scholarship rules and limits. These rules and limits are outlined below.

D1 Team Limit: 11.7

NCAA D1 baseball programs are allowed to offer a maximum of 11.7 athletic scholarships, which can be divided up among a maximum of 27 players. A D1 player on scholarship must receive a minimum scholarship of 25% of the total cost of attendance. A full scholarship includes tuition, fees, books, room, and board."

Yes each school gets 11.7 but some schools apply other full rides to their baseball programs that aren't athletic scholarships. So that most of their team is on a full scholarship. They have endowments setup for baseball. College baseball is not on an even playing field.
