My broadcast just cut over to the Marlins pregame show so I guess my focus is solely on the Canes now.

NC State baseball (32-16, 14-11 ACC) earned a convincing 13-5 win on Saturday afternoon over Duke (20-29, 9-17 ACC) at Jack Coombs Field, clinching its fourth ACC series of the season.

The Wolfpack struck first with three runs in the second, but the Blue Devils tied things up in the third with three of their own. NC State then proceeded to score nine unanswered runs before the Blue Devils managed to get two late runs across, but the attempted comeback was not enough.

The Pack got on the board with three runs in the second as Devonte Brown and Tommy White drew bases-loaded walks and Josh Hood tallied the third RBI of the frame with a sac fly to center field.

The Blue Devils broke through in the third when it knotted the score at 3-3 on a two-run single by Chad Knight followed by an RBI double by Luke Storm.

NC State took its lead back in the fourth on a squeeze play with J.T. Jarrett at the plate. Hood and Dominic Pilolli tallied back-to-back base hits to put runners at the corners, and Jarrett laid down the sac bunt to bring the go-ahead run across and make it 4-3.

In the fifth the Pack added four more runs to extend its lead to 8-3 on back-to-back homers by Brown and LuJames Groover III. Payton Green led off the inning with an infield single and Jacob Godman drew a walk to allow Brown to drive in three runs with his 13th of the season to left field, and then Groover belted a solo shot over the left field wall to tack on the final run of the inning.

White tallied his second hit of the game in the seventh, bringing Groover home from second after he reached on his team-leading 13th double to start the inning. Then, with the bases loaded following a walk and fielder's choice, another fielder's choice and error along with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch pushed three runs across to extend the Wolfpack lead to 12-3.

The Blue Devils cut into their deficit in the eighth thanks to Storm's ground-rule 2-RBI double, making it 12-5, but the Pack answered back in the ninth when Green drove in Jarrett from third on a sac fly to center field after he reached on a base hit.

Starting pitcher Willadsen tossed seven complete innings to pick up his third consecutive win on the mound and improve to 4-3 on the year. He allowed just two earned runs on five hits, yielding three walks while striking out four batters. Baker Nelson closed out the game, allowing two runs and three hits in the final two innings of the contest.

All nine starters in the lineup tallied at least one hit in the game. Green, Groover, Hood and White all had two hits each in the contest while five others had one apiece to combine for 13 in the game. Additionally, Brown drove in a team-high four runs batted in while White had two of his own.

NC State and Duke will meet for the series finale Sunday, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at Jack Coombs Field. The game will be broadcast on Regional Sports Networks (RSN) and there will be a radio broadcast on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App

That will officially end the hosting dream. And probably a top 4 seed in the ACC tournament. Damaging loss and basically gave it away.

always good to get a road series win, but man this is a year of what ifs.

"blown" games against ND, FSU (17 inning game), UNC, Duke, Louisville. really tough to swallow some of those

Especially the 3-1 pitch. Arrogant ump wanted to call him out for walking down the first base line prior to the bad 3-1 call. It could have affected the outcome. With Brown hitting, bases loaded in a 7-5 game with two outs, that's what the pitches dictated what should have been happening. I would have liked to have seen what would have happened.

NC State baseball (32-17, 14-12 ACC) dropped its series finale with Duke at Jack Coombs Field on Sunday afternoon (21-29, 10-17 ACC), 7-4, wrapping up what was the Wolfpack's third-straight series win over the Blue Devils.

NC State broke the ice in the top-half of the second inning, when a single from J.T. Jarrett drove home Josh Hood to put the Pack up 1-0. Hood led off the inning with a single and proceeded to advance to second and third on an error on a failed pickoff attempt and a wild pitch, respectively.

NC State added two more runs in the third, drawing four walks in the frame. Jacob Cozart and Devonte Brown led off the inning with a pair of full-count walks, followed by a bunt from LuJames Groover III to move the runners into scoring position. An intentional walk was then issued to Tommy White, setting up a bases-loaded walk from Hood to score Cozart. Dominic Pilolli kept the momentum going with a sacrifice fly to left field, deep enough for Brown to tag up and extend the Pack's lead to 3-0.

Duke got on the board in the bottom of the third after Alex Mooney led off the inning with a double, moved to third on a flyout and scored on an RBI groundout from RJ Schreck to close the gap at 3-1.

NC State answered in the fourth on an RBI groundout from Cozart which scored Noah Soles to put the Pack ahead 4-1. Soles led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a flyout, then advanced to third on a wild pitch where he was later driven home.

The Blue Devils tied the score in the fourth inning after posting three runs, with the frame starting on a double from Alex Stone. A Will Hoyle single moved Stone to third, and an RBI groundout from Mooney scored Stone and moved Hoyle to second base. After Graham Pauley and Schreck each drew walks, Chad Knight worked a bases-loaded walk to score Hoyle, followed by an RBI sacrifice fly from Luke Storm to score Pauley and even the score at 4-4.

Duke took its first lead of the day in the bottom of the sixth inning when a 2-RBI double from Storm drove home Schreck and Pauley to put the Blue Devils ahead 6-4. Another run was added for Duke when a Chris Crabtree single drove home Storm to put the Blue Devils ahead 7-4 which concluded the scoring for the day.

The Pack threatened in the eighth and ninth innings, but the rally fell short in each frame.

Justin Lawson took the loss on the mound for the Wolfpack to fall to 4-3 on the year, while Luke Fox picked up the win for Duke to move to 4-5. Jimmy Loper picked up the save for the Blue Devils, his fifth of the season.

Jarrett and Soles led the Pack's offense with two hits apiece while four different players tallied a run batted in in the contest.

NC State will next be in action at home for its final midweek contest of the year against UNCG, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park. The game will be broadcast on ACCNX and there will be a radio broadcast on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App.
