The double play he turned with a left handed batter is an all decade play. Very impressive!

I hate to say this but our baseball team is basically UNC's football team. Pray we can score enough to overcome bad defense. The bats will have to carry us because the defense isn't getting better- the pitching could improve but needs help from the other 8 guys on the field.

Well, State is actually good so not sure that's a good comparison. I think the pitching is fine personally but it has disappeared at times.

It can look that way and it actually does disappear at times. That usually happens with most teams. One thing that will never help the pitching, is the pitiful defense we put behind them. It would be great if our pitchers could strike out everybody, but that ain't happening. They have to get some support in the field. I am not talking spectacular fielding, but making routine plays. Yes people are going to make bad throws, but we can't catch "can of corn" pop flies. It's just mind boggling the plays we don't make and it's not one or two guys. It's pretty much everybody.

Willadsen has to fix some things. Since the Clemson game he hasn't been "right" and super inefficient but it's fixable, IMO.

Today, if Brown doesn't lose that ball in the sun I highly doubt Villaman gives up 3 runs in that first inning. How does that change the rest of his outing? Maybe it doesn't. Either way, it points to the defense, IMO, not the pitching.

We really miss Sam and being able to use Whitaker on Sundays instead of Fridays. If Sam were healthy I'd almost want to move Willadsen to Sunday and use Logan on Saturdays. Would've loved to have brought in Silver today as he seems to be the perfect guy to throw against these Louisville hitters. "straight ball they hit very much, curveball their bats are afraid".

With just a middle of the road defense this would be a very very dangerous team, even without Sam.

I don't know what Lavoie does in practice but when that dude gets ABs good things tend to happen. Linus Baker screwed him on a couple fastballs in his last AB, IMO.

*Congrats to the 10 win 2021 Wolfpack football team!

I know but how does a guy that played at Louisville call us North Carolina like 5 times. He ought to know the difference if he played against a red team and a blue team just a few years ago He did it so often I seriously think it might have been on purpose.

Any word on Sam and if his back is improving? I know back issues can be a problem and it can be difficult to predict how quickly it will get better.

I agree with you on the pitching line-up and having Sam on Friday and Logan on Saturday. I think we saw today that you have to throw a lot of breaking balls to Louisville's batters. While it made sense at the time to put Villaman in when they did, it was the wrong combination to face this Louisville team. They thrive when they see the fastball, so it was like red meat to a lion. It is going to need to be breaking balls again tomorrow if State is going to come out of this with a series win.

Same here. Seems like every time I give up on one of our teams and quit watching, they get it together, come back and win. Starting to think I should just stop watching the games live and just catch the replay on demand. Reverse jinx or something, I dunno.

Regardless, WAY TO GO PACK9!!!! Now let's blow their ****ing doors off tomorrow!!!

I have not looked at number of games played vs maximum allowed, but since he is draft eligible after 2023 season, probably does not matter

I'd think about throwing Willadsen out of the pen where it's easier to manage his control issues. Start Villaman, Whitaker, Silver. That won't happen though. On the bright side, Willadsen and Highfill are probably back next year.

You just really want to start Villaman. haha

Yeah, you have to think that Sam and Willy are both back along with Whitaker to make for a really nice weekend rotation next year. Pitching should be pretty strong next year assuming Sam is back along with arms like Lawson, Adams, Nelson, Payne, Kelly, etc.

Villaman is your best guy by a mile, he has to start! Lol. Draft will be interesting, Whitaker, Lawson and Adams are the guys to watch IMO. Whitaker is old and had so many injuries, go if you can.

Anyway, massive game tomorrow. Obviously for the division and host race as well. State pitching is in decent shape: best case scenario is Silver for 6 and Adams for 3. Kelly and Baker should be available too. Payne as well but haven't been using him on weekends. I think State has the advantage but will prob need to score 10 anyway

Draft being only 20 rounds I can't imagine any of those guys are selected. Of course they may choose to just sign a FA deal if they can get one.

No. 23 NC State baseball (25-12, 11-8 ACC) used a season-high five home runs to earn a 15-10 comeback win over No. 11 Louisville (26-12, 10-7 ACC) on Saturday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Wolfpack jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the Cardinals slowly cut into their deficit and managed to take the lead in the sixth. The Pack completed the comeback with six unanswered runs in the final two innings to even the series.

It was a slugfest with a combined 25 runs scored between the squads, and 14 of the 25 hits tallied in the game were for extra bases. The Wolfpack's five home runs matched its season high for a single game, which was last achieved on February 18 against Evansville. Additionally, it marked the ninth time this year the Pack has hit multiple home runs in a contest.

NC State's scoring began in the second inning when it put up five runs on as many hits. Dominic Pilolli and Josh Hood started the frame with back-to-back outfield singles, and J.T. Jarrett delivered with a two-run double down the left field line, his eighth of the year, to give the Pack a 2-0 lead.

Payton Green and Jacob Cozart then stepped up and homered in consecutive at bats to extend the Pack's lead to 5-0 in the frame. It was Green's fifth homer of the year and Cozart's second.

The Cardinals answered in the bottom frame with a pair of runs thanks to a sac fly by Logan Beard to left field and a bases-loaded walk, making it 5-2.

Beard's solo shot to left field in the fourth inning made it a two-run game, but NC State responded in the fifth when Hood and Jarrett both homered to drive in a combined three runs and give the squad an 8-3 lead. It was Hood's seventh of the year and Jarrett's fourth.

Louisville got within two again in the bottom half of the fifth via Isaac Humphrey's RBI single to the shortstop and Christian Knapczyk's two-run double to right center on two outs, making it 8-6.

LuJames Groover III extended his hit streak to 24 and reached base streak to 27 games in the sixth when he drove in Cozart with a single through the left side after a walk, passed ball and fielder's choice put him at third, giving NC State a 9-6 advantage.

The Cards took their first lead of the game in the bottom half of the inning, plating four runs on three run-scoring doubles by Dalton Rushing, Jack Payton and Humphrey along with a three-base error to go ahead 10-9.

NC State regained its lead in the eighth with five runs on three hits. Hood's bases-loaded sac fly to center field brought the game-tying run across, and then timely hitting by Jarrett and Green with back-to-back doubles drove in a combined four runs to put the Pack on top, 14-10.

Groover hit his fourth home run of the year and fifth of the day for the Pack in the ninth, extending the lead to 15-10 with a solo shot to left field.

Groover and Jarrett each tallied three hits in the contest, and Jarrett drove in a career-high six runs batted in. Hood and Green also turned in multi-hit performances with two hits apiece, as eight different players recorded at least one hit in the win.

Justin Lawson improved to 4-1 on the mound this season as he tossed the final 3.2 innings of the contest, yielding just one hit and three walks while not allowing a run to score. He has now picked up four wins in his last five appearances and surrendered just three earned runs in that span.

NC State and Louisville will meet for the rubber match Sunday at Jim Patterson Stadium, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ACCNX and there will be an audio stream on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App.
