RELEASE: Seabron Named ACC Freshman of the Week

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State men’s basketball player Dereon Seabron was named the ACC’s Freshman of the Week Monday for his efforts in last week’s win at Notre Dame.

In the Wolfpack’s lone game of the week, Seabron charted 17 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks - career highs for each – to lift NC State to an 80-69 road win at Notre Dame.

It was the Norfolk, Va., native’s first career double-double as he shot 8-of-12 from the floor, also recording a career-high for field goals made. Seabron was at his best in the second half, scoring 11 points with nine rebounds as the Pack extended its lead to as many as 19 points in the final 20 minutes.

Seabron is the second NC State player to earn ACC Freshman of the Week honors this season. Shakeel Moore won the honor on Dec. 28 after scoring 17 points in the win over North Carolina on Dec. 22.

NC State opens play in the New York Life ACC Tournament on Wednesday when it plays Syracuse at noon. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.
