Locker Room Report: Wolfpack Players

Several NC State players met with the media after the Wolfpack's 24-13 win over James Madison.

Redshirt Freshman Wide Receiver Thayer Thomas

“I was trying to make some plays out there today. I know I put in a lot of work in the offseason to prepare for this moment, and as soon as I got onto the field, everything felt normal. Everything slowed down for me.”

“It felt like a dream. As soon as I scored, it didn’t really feel real. But then it  sort of sunk in, and then I got to play a little bit more and then felt more comfortable out there. So it felt like a dream, and I’m just blessed to have that opportunity.”

“In my heart, I want to be that guy. I don’t know if I would have thought it’d be me, but I was prepared for the moment, went out there, and made the play.”

“It just shows that hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. I just go out there everyday, grind everyday, and try to prove that I can play out there. Everyday in practice, everyday when I’m off the field, and coming here every hour; I want to make sure it counts.”

Redshirt Freshman Defensive End Ibrahim Kante

“He was really elusive, and we had to adjust and play him differently by basically keeping him inside because we know he likes to move up. He runs a lot, so we had to really adjust to that. That was really a part that was really tough for us to contain today, but we have to fix that.”

“At first, the heat was bad, but after the first quarter, everybody got adjusted to it. To see nobody cramping and stuff, it was actually good. Before the game, we were trying to down water and take IVs.”

“It was important to win to set the tone for the season. Every game, we want to win. That’s just our mentality going into it.”

“Even though I redshirted, I saw how hard those guys worked, and to see how good those plays were and how many plays there were, it was heartbreaking to see them lose that game.”

Redshirt Junior Defensive Tackle Larrell Murchison

“It was my first game back after my junior college days, so it was a big win. Just getting the feel for that game speed again and spending that redshirt year just practicing all the time, feeling like you’re really putting that effort for the win, felt really great.”

“I feel like we played really good. We’ve got a lot of young guys. When E went down this game, I feel like we had to pick up some slack. Everybody in the country wants to get better the next week, so that’s what we plan on doing.”

“Just playing for him. Everyone gathered around and said, ‘Play for him. Play for E.’ He’s the senior. He holds it down on the D-line, so we were all playing for him.”
