The qualifying rounds are done. Main draw play (top 64 singles players) starts tomorrow.

From the schedule on the ITA website, the singles matches for today are currently shown as split between being held at Cary Tennis Park and Duke. This is because of the rain, and they are using Duke's indoor facility to play many of the matches. They only have about 6 indoor courts there at Cary Tennis Park, so they need to utilize more indoor courts in order to try to not get behind on schedule and get as many matches completed as possible.

Also, some of the start times have been pushed back.

Mia Slama just won her opening round match in the main draw in 3 sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, defeating former Wolfpack player Kristina Paskauskas who now is with Texas A&M.

They have live stream set up for the indoor courts too.

Lavinia Tanasie just won her opening match in the main draw in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5 over Vivian Yang of Virginia. Yang played #1 singles last year for Virginia, and beat Mia Slama in the regular season, before Slama beat her in the ACC finals.

I watched a good bit of the match on the live stream. Was a strange match...Tanasie was down 2-5 in the first set, then stormed back to win that set. Tanasie was leading 5-2 in the second set, and then lost 3 straight games and it went to 5-5, before winning the final 2 games.

Big win for Tanasie.

Mia Slama just beat Ashton Bowers of Auburn in 3 sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-1) to advance to the 3rd Round (final 16) of the Main Draw.

We have two main draw doubles matches later today. Conway and Smejkalova are scheduled to play at 3:30 and Osuigwe and Gilheany play at 5:00.

Mia & Lavinia will play in the consolation bracket today at 4 p.m.

Mia will compete for a spot in the NCAA Singles Championship today in ITA All-Americans round of 16!

Her match is slated for 10 a.m.

Obviously still very early in the fall season, but based on the results at the ITA All-American tournament thus far, it looks like Duke and Ohio State are going to be extremely good teams in the spring (team competition) season....likely both top 5 caliber teams in the nation. Both Duke and Ohio State advanced 3 singles players into the final 16 of the main draw of the ITA All-American tournament. We only got one into the final 16, Mia Slama.

UNC has looked very good as well, getting 4 singles players into the round of 32 of the main draw, and is a likely top 5 to 10 team come spring. In the offseason, Duke got a commitment from an 18 year old UK national player named Mimi Xu, who has been ranked as high as #230 in the WTA for singles. So she could be similar to what Diana Shnaider was for us in 2023.

For us, having Broadfoot and Pursoo both out with injury right now makes us significantly weaker. Both of them have the talent and experience to be top 30 to 40 players. We need at least one, or hopefully both of them back healthy for the spring in order to be able to compete against teams like Duke, Ohio State, and UNC.
