Would've liked bonus points from Singleton there but credit to Carigan, this UNC team is well trained in stalling and killing clock.

Same crap they've done for years. I think they have one takedown through five matches.

184 and 197. Low expectations for these two matches. Even if you lose both by decision, you're in good shape with HWT and 125 after.

Let's steal one and make the ending uninteresting for the first time in ACC action.

Dailey beats an unranked kid and acts like a clown. Hilarious.

Not great for Cates to give up the major, but it could've been worse. Let's see if Brophy can surprise us.

That's about the best Brophy has looked in a State singlet. I have no idea how Platt is ranked, even at 33. He ain't good at all.

You get wins from Trumble and Robinson, even just decisions, and this one is clinched.

Trumble gets the 8-0 major over Nieves.

Pack in control up 18-10.

This is a big match for Vince against #15 Terukina. He could really use a win to get his mojo back.

Yup, I thought he could've won the match.

Either Vince is hurt or just lacking confidence. This doesn't look like the kid we saw last year.

Good to get the win esp after the unc coach started taunting

Redding's best performance in a State singlet. That's a good win over a ranked kid. Maybe he can get it going and make a run to qualify for NCAAs.

State wins 24-10. Pack brought their A game, outside of Ryan Jack.

Smurfs dominated again by Pack Wrestling. When was the last time they beat us? Streak is impressive.

If any unc fan tells you they don't care about wrestling, don't believe them, especially an alum. I'm old enough to remember when unc won the Lacrosse national championship in 1982. All of a sudden lacrosse became a major sport in North Carolina.

Apparently, we have won 13 in a row.

Future is bright with Koy and Denny. Loved when Pat told him (Denny) to just stop shooting. Their guy had no offense.

Their dude at 84 was a toolbag. Almost got smacked. Donald just doesn't have the gas to go against that level for 3 rounds.

I thought Vince looked better tonight, personally. Actually showed a little aggression. Seems the book on going against him is still stall for 2.5 rounds and try to get a late score.

I don't know what's going on with Jack this year. Hopefully he peaks later.

Brophy looked awesome. He was the far superior wrestler in that match.

Trumble is such a beast. Hope he can stay healthy and really see what he can do end of year.

Redding was such a nice close out, particularly with the late takedown to put it out of reach.

Lots of animosity between the teams after the matches. Wondered how the handshake line would go, but it went fine.

Fun night.

They made Chuck Coates proud last night. I know his wife, Cynthia was in attendance
It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great.

The thing with Jack was, he was the better wrestler last night. He initiated all of the offense, just didn't finish.

He lost 2-1 on riding time and it appeared he cut the guy to start the second, so he had about 2 seconds of riding time going into the third period. He made no attempt to ride, and that is fine.

But if you're going to do that, you better go quick in the third, and he didn't. With the way the first 5 minutes of the match went, he should have been eager to get up and out. If he comes right up and the action in neutral is what it was for the first two periods, Jack likely wins 2-1 with the UNC kid getting hit with stalling a second time.

I agree, but Jack didn't do anything in the first either. He actually shot in the second and initiated action.

He was the better wrestler. The other guy did nothing but get a good ride. He was definitely solid on top though. Thought Jack was going to sneak out and get a reverse.

Jack has to figure it out. I know the other guys he wrestles against are good too, but we were counting on him this year and he has not yet met expectations.

After last night's victory, NC State now leads the all-time series 65-62-3 over unc in wrestling.

Of course all that really matters in any sport is the recent history, especially the last 10-20 years.

But since the Turd holes love to brag so much about the all-time series they lead in other sports , here's one that they can't.

He was considering that in the toss up category- as was I in the posts pre match. It's hard to project Jack to beat ranked wrestler with confidence.

It'll likely come down to a few things:

1) Can Vince breakthrough against VT's 125 ? ... He's 0-3 against Eddie

2) Can we hold 133 to a regular decision? ... VT's Seidel is a monster at this weight

3) Who does VT put out at 165? ... it'll be a toss-up with Burton, we'll be heavy favorites against Church

4) Can Brophy beat Sasso again at 197? ... Sasso is rated higher, but Brophy beat him at the end of last season.

As usual, can State's hammers get more bonus points than VT's hammers?

VT beat us easily in November.

Here is the box score:
#10 Virginia Tech 25, #7 NC State 9
Location: BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
National Duals Cons. Round of 8

125 | #4 Eddie Ventresca (VT) dec. #1 Vincent Robinson (NCSU) 4-1 // 0-3
133 | #17 Dillon Campbell (VT) dec. #18 Zach Redding (NCSU) 5-1 // 0-6
141 | #7 Ryan Jack (NCSU) dec. #17 Tom Crook (VT) 8-4 // 3-6
149 | #10 Koy Buesgens (NC State) dec. Collin Gaj (VT) 4-1 // 6-6
157 | Noah Nininger (VT) dec. #4 Jackson Arrington (NCSU) 7-6 // 6-9
165 | Ryan Burton (VT) major dec. Will Denny (NCSU) 15-7 // 6-13
174 | #5 Matty Singleton (NC State) dec. #23 Sergio Desiante (VT) 7-1 // 9-13
184 | #22 Jaden Bullock (VT) dec. Don Cates (NCSU) 4-1 // 9-16
197 | #23 Sonny Sasso (VT) major dec. Cason Howle (NCSU) 11-0 // 9-20
285 | #18 Jimmy Mullen (VT) tech fall Everest Ouellette (NCSU) 22-5 // 9-25
*Individual rankings based on InterMat (11/11/25)

Notes
125. Can Vince (#5) get revenge at 125? Ventresca (#3) has been really good this year and has beaten Vince 3 times.
133. Freshman Aaron Seidel (#7) is now VT's starter at 133. He's 9-0 and ranked 7th. Zach Redding (#33) is starting to come on for State, with a ranked win over UNC, but this will be a tough match for him.
141. Ryan Jack (#13) had one of his best matches of the season against Tom Crook (#22) earlier this year. Needs to do it again Friday.
149. Koy Buesgens (#5) beat Collin Gaj (#9) in the first matchup. First takedown likely wins.
157. Ethen Miller (#16) is the new starter for VT at 157. The senior will have an advantage over whoever we send out there not with Arrington and Zapeda out for the year.
165. Ryan Burton (#12) majored Will Denny (#13) in the first matchup. Denny has been on fire lately and I expect this match to be much closer, Two stud freshmen will be a huge matchup on Friday night.
174. Matty Singleton (#6) handles Sergia Desiante (#31) in the first matchup. Can he get to his offense a little more and get us bonus points?
184. Jaden Bullock (#32) beat Don Cates in the first match up, but has struggled this season with a record of just 12-10.
197. Sonny Sasso (#16) beat us Cason Howle in the first matchup. Patrick Brophy (#25) is now the starter for us at 197 and has started to find his groove. His best performance of the year was against UNC last Friday. This should be a close match.
285. Can't take much from the first dual on this one. Isaac Trumble (#2) is back and will take on Jimmy Mullen (#16). Trumble beat Mullen in the dual 5-3 last year.

Hypothetically, if you start at 125, can you get it to 285 within 3? I think the only way that happens is if State can find bonus points from Jack/Buengens/Singleton. That will be a tall task.

I keep going through the matchups and I'm struggling to find a way State wins. Would need multiple surprises, but luckily the match isn't wrestled on paper.

Options at 157 moving forward- From the pre-season
157- Lots of depth in this division, will be interested to see who fills out where.
Jackson Arrington- JR- Coming off a RS season, he should be in line for a big season.

Luca Felix- RS Fr. Big-time high school recruit. He came in projected at 165 or 174 so who knows where he will fit in next season.

Brogan Tucker- Incoming Fr ranked 4th in the country at his weight class, will he see time as a FR?

Jason Kwaak- Incoming Fr ranked 19 in the country at his weight class. (Maybe 165)

Will Denny- High-ranked recruit, #2 in his class projected at 157.

Latrell Schafer- Current Fr who redshirted. High ranked recruit from this season.

From Flowrestling-
It appears the Pack has a few options, though all three have minimal collegiate experience.
Redshirt freshman Latrell Schafer spent some time at both 157 and 165 pounds last year while in redshirt. He was a top-100 recruit out of Georgia and is 6-5 this year.
True freshmen Brogan Tucker and Daniel Zepeda were both in action at the weight at the Southern Scuffle, with Zepeda finishing second in the bracket. Zepeda was the #8 overall recruit in the Class of 2025 while Tucker was #26. Both could still redshirt as well.
