Three goals in the opening half powered the NC State women's soccer team to a dominant 5-0 victory at VCU on Sunday afternoon at Sports Backers Stadium.

NC State (1-2-1) scored three times in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Mana Nakata opened the scoring with a long-range effort from outside the 18-yard box, giving the Wolfpack an early 1-0 lead in the 5th minute. Abi Hugh then doubled the Pack's advantage when she pounced on a loose ball off an NC State corner kick for a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute. Taylor Chism fired in the original shot before Hugh gathered the rebound and scored her first goal as a member of the Pack.

Annika Wohner concluded the Pack's first-half scoring when she netted a goal with just 11 seconds remaining. Jade Bordeleau intercepted a pass in the Pack's attacking third before threading in a ball to Wohner for a 3-0 NC State lead.

NC State scored twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to make it 5-0. Hannah Jibril notched her first goal of the season to make it 4-0 in the 49th minute before Wohner secured first-career brace with her second goal of the day in the 53rd minute.

The Wolfpack outshot VCU 18-10 with an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal. NC State limited the Rams to just two shots in the first half. Five Wolfpack players recorded multiple shots with Wohner leading the way with four.

Olivia Pratapas preserved the shutout with eight saves. Her eight saves tied a career-high

The Wolfpack's 5-0 win marked its first time scoring five goals in a single match since another 5-0 victory on Sept. 9, 2021, against Oklahoma. Wohner also becomes the first Wolfpack player with a multi-goal effort since Lulu Guttenberger scored twice against Miami on Oct. 15, 2022.

Sunday's win marks NC State's 399th win in program history. Head coach Tim Santoro also moves into a tie for second place with Laura Kerrigan for the most wins by an NC State women's soccer head coach (87).

Annika Wohner netted a brace for the second straight match as NC State women's soccer recorded a 3-1 victory over Charlotte on Wednesday night at Dail Soccer Stadium. Wednesday night's win not only marked back-to-back multi-goal wins for the Wolfpack, but it also marked the 400th win in program history

Wohner needed less than 4 minutes to give the Pack a lead it never relinquished. After a clearance was blocked on the right wing, Mana Nakata gathered the ball and played a pass into Wohner, who quickly blasted a right-footed effort into the bottom-right corner of Charlotte's goal for a 1-0 lead

The Wolfpack then doubled its lead in the 17th minute when Jaiden Thomas scored her first goal of the season. Wohner was again a focal point in the Pack's goal, firing a shot on goal to force a save from Charlotte goalkeeper Emma Wakeman before Thomas tapped in a score for a 2-0 advantage

Wohner made it four goals in just two games in the 25th minute when she chased down a long pass from Brooklyn Holt down the right side of the pitch. Wohner evaded the goalkeeper before tallying NC State's third and final goal of the night.

Charlotte cut NC State's lead to two when Payton Patrick delivered a solo goal from outside the 18-yard box, trimming the score to 3-1 in the 31st minute. The Wolfpack held a 12-4 advantage in shots and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks in the first half.

NC State and Charlotte went scoreless in the second half as the Wolfpack notched its second win in as many years against the 49ers. Olivia Pratapas denied Charlotte forward Macey Bader from close range in the 87th minute to preserve the two-goal victory

NC State's 400th win in program history also marked win No. 88 for head coach Tim Santoro as the Wolfpack's head coach. He moves into second place alone for most wins by an NC State women's soccer head coach, surpassing former Wolfpack coach Laura Kerrigan.

No. 25 NC State concludes its two-game homestand Sunday night against No. 22 Colorado. Sunday's match at Dail Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. and will be televised on ACC Network.

SERIES HISTORY VS. COLORADO
NC State and Colorado will square off for only the second time in Sunday night's matchup. A few notes tracking the Pack's matchup against the Buffaloes are listed below:

NC State and Colorado met for the first time this past season in Boulder on Aug. 31, 2023. After Colorado opened the scoring with an early goal in the 6th minute, the Wolfpack knotted the score at 1-1 off a goal from a corner kick. Taylor Chism's equalizer, however, did not secure the Pack a road draw as the Buffaloes scored in the final minute to notch a 2-1 victory.
NC State and Colorado played an even match this past season as the Buffaloes led the shot advantage by just one at 16-15. The Wolfpack edged the Buffaloes in corner kicks at 5-4.

SCOUTING THE BUFFALOES
Colorado (4-1-0) enters Sunday night's matchup on a three-game winning streak following a 3-2 defeat to No. 8 North Carolina on Aug. 18. The Buffaloes held a late 2-1 lead over the Tar Heels before UNC scored twice in the final three minutes to record the comeback victory. Colorado has outscored its opponents 8-1 during its three-game winning streak, defeating Wyoming, Michigan and UNCG. In its first year in the Big 12, Colorado ranked fourth in the 2024 Big 12 Soccer Preseason Poll behind only BYU, Texas Tech and TCU. Forward Shyra James, defender Faith Leyba and goalkeeper Jordan Nytes were all named to the Big 12 Soccer Preseason Team in early August. James leads the Buffaloes with five goals and 10 points. Nytes has started all five games in goal and sports a .897 save percentage with three shutouts.
