All the men's scholarship money is tied up in distance and we didn't score a point in the 800, mile, 3000 or 5000. What are we doing?
jadawson
How long do you want to ignore this user?
entered 3 athletes in the 800, finished 27th, 34th and 37th out of 41 athletes

entered 4 athletes in the Mile, finished 15th, 28th, 38th and 39th out of 45 athletes

entered 5 athletes in the 3000, finished 21st, 22nd, 36th, 48th, 41st out of 49 athletes

entered 3 athletes in the 5000, finished 17th, 22nd, 31st out of 42 athletes

DMR did decent finishing 4th, but then you realize it was our A lineup and virtually no one else's that is relevant. UNC, UVA, VT would have beaten us by 15+ seconds with their A lineups and that was with State running a school record.

Program is in a rut. The recruits know it too. There's no reason we should get out recruited so badly by UNC for mens distance recruits while they spread their scholarship money out so much more than we do.

The men didn't qualify a single athlete to nationals and the women qualified 2, both in the 5000m and only one of which is favored to score. We'll likely end up with 3 or fewer points and finish outside the top 40 at nationals.

Without defending that lousy performance, I really, really hate the scoring at track meets. You can have the 9th best athlete at every single event and finish in last place as a team. If you had the 9th best athlete in the country at every position on a football field, you'd be in contention for winning a national championship. But in track, you're nothing.
Not that any of our guys are even close to 9th anyway, so I'm just an old man yelling at clouds.

The track team performance has always been lousy, even when the distance/XC teams were actually kicking ass. It's annoyed me to no end that we seem to not actually try at ACCs. Not only do we not score at a lot of events, we don't even have any entrants.

Much prefer how swimming is scored with finals and consolation finals all some degree of points. You still get rewarded for having the best in an event, but depth can get rewarded sufficiently as well for one program having 3 or 4 in the top 16.

With these 16+ team mega conferences, the sport would be much better if they limited each school to three entries per event excluding relays which would have one. A couple years ago VT won the conference meet because they took all eight spots in the pole vault.

And more points for relays. Using 4 runners for a maximum of 10 points is a waste.
