The Penske cars (and Wood Bros) had a plan and executed it most of the race keeping them up front for most of it. They stayed in line and together. The cars from 3 to 15 were all over the place, jumping line to line and they really never had two good lines of racing. Just when a second lane would form, they would jump lanes and it would break up. The two doing most of the jumping were Chastain in the 1 and Hocevar in the 77. 77 is young and learning, Chastain just aggressive. Almost worked out for 77 though.

You are right, racing behind the leaders seemed disorganized at best.
C'mon guys. This was explained over and over by Harvick and Bowyer (mostly by Harvick because he had first hand experience driving the new configuration) during the course of the race... they were more fanned out after the first two rows because they needed air on the front of the nose of the cars to fight the tightness in the turns.

That very well may be. My issue is with the 77, this type of driving by him goes back to his ARCA days.

Agree fully with you on the 77... he ruined the end of a great race and took several cars out of a good finish in the process.

Yep, getting air on the nose is a must there with the speed they are taking into the corners. They stick their nose out of line to get air on the nose and it helps the cars stick and make them turn. The added air gives them downforce...if not they are tight and want to slide up the track. But, I'm not talking about that part. You have to do that there.

I was talking about the guys changing lanes entirely instead of staying in one or the other. Getting the nose out for air is one thing....changing lanes constantly is another. Blaney, Cindric, Berry...they all understood that and that's why the consistently were in the front.

@FOXTV got 4.586 million viewers for Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta, up 1% from last year and the most-watched sport event of the weekend in the U.S.

NASCAR Cup Series scores top post-Daytona audience in four years, but it is the Xfinity Series on CW that may raise the most eyebrows -- topping all of the "Big Four" broadcast networks Saturday afternoon:

NASCAR and The CW had high hopes when the first full season of their TV rights deal began this year. Two races in, the results are extremely impressive.

According to Sports Media Watch, Saturday's Xfinity Series race from Atlanta averaged 1.31 million viewers. That's a respectable 10% increase from last year's broadcast on FS1. Even more impressively, the race finished second in the ratings among sports broadcasts Saturday, trailing only ABC's NBA Saturday Primetime matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets (2.87 million viewers).

And just think how many more people would watch if their local CW would carry the race.

It's pretty good. Starting with Ralph Moody and connecting dots all the way to Robert Yate, Doug Yates, Ricky Rudd and Carl Edwards. Also mentions Wilson County Speedway. Worth the listen at least it was for me.

there are still like 7 drivers that have raced against Sterling Marlin and/or Bill Elliott

Marlin and Elliott have been in a race in the 1970's where Buck Baker was also in the race

Buck Baker was in the 1st NASCAR cup race ever held

Still only 2 degrees of separation from some of today's drivers to the very first NASCAR Cup race.

No other major sport organizations has those kinda close roots to it's beginnings among it's present day players/drivers

yes I had to do a little research on that. Initially I thought it was only Sterling Marlin that had raced against Baker but others in a FB group i'm in pointed out that Bill Elliott had too

Saw a interview maybe 10-15 years ago with Gary Nelson when he was NASCAR's Vice President of Competition. They had a warehouse that was full of confiscated parts from teams. The team/driver who had the honor of having the most confiscated parts? Richard Petty and Petty Enterprises lol

I believe that. Rick Hendrick has a really cool story on Richard Petty involving a engine.

Anybody got a link to the comparison of the layout from last year v the layout from this year?

One lap is more than a mile shorter this year, and one lap last year used to be over 4 miles in length? Did I screw that up, or was what I thought I heard actually correct.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.
