From start to finish, it was the Wolfpack leading the way on both sides as NC State finished first in every event on their way to sweeping UNC Wilmington on senior night, with the men seeing a 172-104 victory and the women winning 181-89.
A total of 23 seniors were recognized before the dual meet, many of them turning in strong performances throughout the evening.
The theme of pool records falling last week continued into this week as four pool records fell. First, in the men's 200 butterfly, senior Noah Bowers swam a 1:41.26 to finish first and set the pool record.
Noah Henderson had shared the pool record in the men's 50 freestyle coming into the night but beat his own time of 19.18, which he set back in November with a time of 19.13 tonight to finish first in the event.
It was a memorable senior night for Conall Monahan as the Charlotte, N.C. native set a pool record in the men's 200-yard breaststroke by nearly a second with a time of 1:55.54, which qualifies him for the NCAA B standard. The record in the 200 breaststroke had stood for nine years, set by Will Licon in 2015.
Katharine Berkoff continues to rewrite the record book this season as she sets another NC State pool record, this time in the women's 200 backstroke with a time of 1:50.94.
The Wolfpack saw plenty of first-place finishes from their seniors, including Hunter Tapp in the men's 200-yard free (1:35.26) and Michael Moore in the men's 200 back (1:46.85). On the women's side, Abby Pilkenton picked up first place and a personal best in the women's 100 backstroke (54.51), Abby Arens in the women's 50 freestyle (22.31) and 200 breaststroke (2:11.31), and Yara Hierath in the women's 200 freestyle (1:48.51) and a personal best in the 200 IM (2:01.37)
Both the men's and women's 200 medley teams started the night with victories, and both 200 freestyle relay teams for the Wolfpack ended the night with victories. On the men's side, both times came close to setting the pool record.
Freshman Daniel Diehl continues to put out solid performances for the Wolfpack. First in the 100-yard breaststroke, he set a personal best and qualified for NCAA B standard time with a 53.24. He followed that up with a season's best and another NCAA B standard time in the men's 100-yard freestyle.
Diving
In the diving portion of the evening, Renato Calderaro took home two first-place finishes, scoring a 409.50 in the 1m dive and a 433.88 in the 3m dive. On the women's side, senior Helene Synnott also finished first in both events. First, in the 1m dive, she scored 303.75; in the 3m, she scored 320.78 to qualify for NCAA B standards.
Elisabeth Rockefeller, Clara Tate, and Celia Bidwell followed Synnott in the 1m dive with scores good enough to qualify for NCAA B standards in their dives.
