The NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams begin the 2023-2024 regular season on the road this weekend with a meet against the Arizona State Sun Devils. The squads are set to kick off the competition at 5 p.m. Friday at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. They will resume competition Saturday morning with an exhibition meet swimming long course meter events to round out the weekend.

Live results will be posted on Meet Mobile, and both meets will be broadcast on the ASU Live Stream.

After a solid finish to the 2022-23 season, both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams were ranked No. 4 in the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) top 25 polls ahead of the season.

Head Coach Braden Holloway is looking to lead the Wolfpack to another strong season in his 13th season at the helm. The Wolfpack men won three national titles last season: Aiden Hayes, the 200 fly champion, and Kacper Stokowski, a 200 medley relay champion, return for NC State this season. Katharine Berkoff, a four-time NCAA Champion, returns for the Wolfpack women.

Ahead of the 2023-24 season, SwimSwam released its rankings for the 2023 signing class (the current freshmen), with both NC State's men and women checking in at No. six in the nation.

The Sun Devils are off to a 3-0 start to the season with two wins over Georgia and a win over UNLV. The Sun Devils men were ranked No. 1 in the CSCAA top 25 poll.

NC State swimming and diving kicked off its 2023-24 slate with a pair of ranked matchups against Arizona State, with the Wolfpack women coming away from the road meet with a head-to-head victory over the Sun Devils.

The fourth-ranked Wolfpack women beat Arizona State by a 169.5 to 130.5 score, highlighted by three event wins apiece from senior leaders Katharine Berkoff and Abby Arens. The team claimed the top finish in 11 of 16 events contested in Friday night's meet.

Facing off against the top team in the nation on their side, the Pack men fell 186.5 to 113.5 to the Sun Devils. Ross Dant and Kacper Stokowski claimed individual wins in the pool, and Renato Calderaro won both diving events to pace the team.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS:
Berkoff and Stokowski both picked up NCAA A cuts in the 100-yard backstroke to kick off their seasons. Berkoff went 50.83 for the win on her side, and Stokowski followed suit with a 44.48 on the men's side.

Berkoff's win was the first of three on the night as she also took top honors in the 50-yard freestyle (22.34) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.24) which she swam back to back.

Arens' three victories came in the 100 (50.83) and 200-yard (2:08.94) breaststroke events, and she rounded out her night with first place in the 100-yard butterfly (51.91).

Meghan Donald (200-yard backstroke) and Grace Sheble (200-yard individual medley) also claimed wins for the Wolfpack women.

NC State continued its distance dominance with a podium sweep in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle. In addition to Dant's top time (8:51.33), Lance Norris (8:56.43) and Owen Lloyd (8:58.59) joined him in the top three.

DIVING:
NC State took first place in all four diving events across the men's and women's squads. Helene Synnott (one-meter, 299.85) and Bayleigh Cranford (three-meter, 326.23) splitted winning duty for the Wolfpack women, and Calderaro claimed the victory in both events with a score of 343.05 on one-meter and 383.70 on three-meter. All of those marks were good for Zones cuts to kick off the season for the Pack divers.

RELAY HIGHLIGHTS:
The Wolfpack women kicked off the night with the team's only relay win, a 1:37.07 performance in the 200-yard medley relay put together by Berkoff, Arens, Miriam Sheehan and Casaundra Moses. NC State's top relay teams finished second the rest of the way.

UP NEXT:
NC State and Arizona State do a long course exhibition on Saturday before the team heads back to Raleigh to prepare for its home opener. The Wolfpack will host Georgia and Duke for a tri meet on Friday, Nov. 3 at the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center.

The Wolfpack picked up their first ACC Swimmer of the Week honors, with Abby Arens taking home the award for her performance this past weekend at Arizona State.

Arens' three victories came in the 100 (50.83) and 200-yard (2:08.94) breaststroke events, and she rounded out her night with first place in the 100-yard butterfly (51.91).

The NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams are set to host both Georgia and Duke for their home opener on Friday, Nov. 3, from the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center. The meet will begin at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Extra.

Not only is it the home opener for NC State, but the Wolfpack will be welcoming back the 1973 Men's ACC championship team for the team's 50th anniversary of the title while recognizing the 2023 men's ACC Championship with a ring ceremony throughout the meet.

The Wolfpack are coming off their meet at Arizona State, where the women saw a win (169.5-130.5) while the men fell (113.5-186.5)

It was a successful Pan-American Games for the Wolfpack as Kennedy Noble, Will Gallant, Arsenio Bustos, James Plage, and Luke Miller combined for 15 medals in four days from Santiago, Chile, and the Centro Acutico.

Along with the five golds, six silvers, and four bronze medals, Noble broke two Pan-American and pool records. First in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:08.03 for a first-place finish and then again in the 4x100 mixed medley relay with a time of 3:44.71 to also bring home the gold for Team USA.

Last February, the team was able to take home the 2023 ACC Championship trophy, marking the eighth title in the last nine years and the 32nd in program history. At the conference championship meet, the Wolfpack led from start to finish through five days of action, with second-place finishing Virginia Tech a whopping 607 points behind.

The Pack men secured ten first-place finishes at the meet, bringing home the gold in five individual events and in all five relays. With all 18 Pack men at the Championship scoring points, the record-breaking number of team points scored was an all-around effort.

The No. 4/No. 4 NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up their first home meet of the season against Georgia and Duke Friday night. The Pack men defeated Georgia 151.5-148.5 and Duke 246-53, while the Wolfpack women beat Duke 151-149 while falling to No. 9 Georgia 137-161.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS:
It was a Wolfpack duo in the men's 50 freestyle with Luke Miller and Noah Henderson in a tie for first, going 19.18 to take the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season.

The duo repeated in the men's 100 butterfly with Miller taking home first place (44.17) and Henderson in second (45.57). Miller's time met the qualifications for NCAA A standard time.

Senior Katharine Berkoff put on a strong showing, finishing in first place in the 100 backstroke (51.84) and the 50 freestyle (22.56). Both times met the qualifications for NCAA B standard time.

In the men's 1000 freestyle, the second and third fastest times in the country came courtesy of Lance Norris (8:51.60) and Owen Lloyd (8:53.42), to go first and second in the event. Ross Dant followed with a third-place finish with a time of 8:55.17

The Wolfpack also took home first and second in the men's 100 breaststroke, with Sam Hoover in first (53.62) and Conall Monahan in second (54.54).

RELAY HIGHLIGHTS:
The Wolfpack men kicked off the night with a relay win, putting in a 1:23.61 performance in the 200-yard medley relay by Quintin McCarty, Sam Hoover, Luke Miller, and Drew Salls. The 400-freestyle relay, made up of the same group, once again finished in first with a time of 2:49.40.

On the women's side, a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay saw Kennedy Noble, Abby Arens, Tyler Driscoll, and Annabel Crush finish with a time of 1:39.14. The Wolfpack went on to claim second place in the women's 400-yard freestyle relay with Arens, Berkoff, Meghan Donald, and Driscoll clocking a time of 3:20.00

DIVING:
NC State took first place in three of the four diving events, with Bayleigh Cranford claiming first place in both the 1-meter (316.85) and 3-meter (327.40) dives. Bayne Bennett took home first place in the men's three-meter (408.15), while Renato Calderaro claimed second in both events.

NC State, Georgia, and Duke do a long course exhibition on Saturday before the NC State/ GAC invite in Greensboro, N.C. Nov. 16-18. The Wolfpack won't return to the friendly confines of the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center until January 26, when they host Texas.

The Wolfpack travel to Greensboro, N.C., as they get set for the NC State/GAC Invite from the Greensboro Aquatic Center beginning on Thursday, Nov. 16, and concluding on Saturday, Nov. 18. Prelims will start at 9:30 a.m. each day and finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. each night.

Joining NC State in Greensboro will be Duke, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, and Army.

The Wolfpack are coming off a tri-meet with Georgia and Duke, which saw the men sweep the tri-meet with the women splitting, taking home a victory over Duke and falling to Georgia.

Last season, the Wolfpack women finished in first place with 2,189.50 total points, while the Pack men ended the meet in second place (1,829.50 points). Both squads enter the meet this season ranked fourth in the nation.

It's been a strong start for Luke Miller, the ACC Men's swimmer of the week, after claiming the fastest time in the nation in the 100 butterfly with a time of 44.17. Miller also has the second-fastest time in the nation in the men's 50 freestyle, clocking a 19.18, which he shares with teammate Noah Henderson, which are pool records at NC State.

NC State also sees the top time in the men's 100 backstroke, with Kacper Stokowski clocking a 44.48.

On the women's side Katharine Berkoff is coming off three podium finishes which included two first place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke. Her time of 50.83 is the second fastest time in the country.

Wolfpack swimming records six top-10 finishes at U.S. Open

NC State swimming spent the weekend in Greensboro, NC at the U.S. Open. The Pack struggled in the national field and only recorded six top-10 finishes one being a podium finish for graduate student Katharine Berkoff.

The red-and-white had a great outing at the NC State/GAC Invite in November; in a tough field, the Pack finished first on the women's side and second on the men's side. The U.S. Open presented a much greater challenge for the Pack NC State had just nine swimmers make it to the finals in their respective events.
On the men's side, five athletes competed in four different events. Fifth-year senior Hunter Tapp competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke races, taking eighth in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 54.85 seconds and 15th in the 200-meter race with 2:05.15. Redshirt freshman JT Ewing also competed in the 200-meter backstroke finals, finishing 10th with a time of 2:00.97.

Senior Owen Lloyd competed in the 400-meter individual medley race, finishing 11th with a time of 4:22.60. Junior Aiden Hayes and graduate student Noah Bowers finished in the finals of the men's 100-meter butterfly. Hayes came in seventh with a time of 52.10 seconds, and Bowers finished in 24th place with 54.73 seconds.

Four NC State women made it to the finals, with Berkoff and sophomore Kennedy Noble each competing in two events. Berkoff took a third place finish in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 58.61 seconds, recording the Pack's only podium finish. Noble took fifth in the same race with a time of 59.51 seconds. Earlier in the competition, Noble secured another top-five finish in the 200-meter backstroke. She finished in fourth with a time of 2:10.07.

Much like the Pack's top performing men, Berkoff and Noble showed a performance decline on the national stage this weekend. Berkoff holds the season highs in both the 100-meter backstroke and the 100-meter freestyle and Noble holds the second spot for NC State in the 100-meter backstroke, but neither of them were able to match their performances at the NC State/GAC Invitational.

At the U.S. Open, Berkoff took 14th place in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 55.40 seconds. Senior Abby Arens competed in the 100-meter breaststroke, finishing 16th in the finals with a time of 1:09.84. Sophomore Meghan Donald also competed in the 100-meter backstroke and finished 15th with a time of 1:01.71.

This marks the last time the Wolfpack swimming team competes in 2023. Its next outing will be the U.S. Pro Series in Knoxville, Tennessee from Wednesday, Jan. 10 to Saturday, Jan. 13
