this program needs a change, what an embarrassment. 8th place in the ACC. 3 guys in the top 10 at 2k who finished 40th, 44th and 103rd respectively. Not sure about that race plan.

Shoutout to Zach Hughes though. 800 specialist was the #1 finisher for the varsity squad in XC for i believe the first time in his career and was 28th overall. Can't ask for anymore from him.

I don't even bother caring about the men any more. I was on site when we had a perfect score at ACCs. Am I living in the past? Probably, but how the mighty have fallen.

ties the worst finish at ACC's in mens program history, and all 3 8th place finishes have been since 2013. Between 1989 and 2011 the men's program never finished worse than 3rd and won way more often than they finished 3rd.

I know the conference has changed with other great programs like Notre Dame and Syracuse but i dont feel like asking to just be somewhat competitive is too much.

Dont know why i do this to myself but I was messing around with a KOLAS projection site and there is a real route for the NC State Men to get pushed into the National meet by a better team. I didn't mess around too much with the finishing order of the other regions just took a quick stab at top 2 and making sure 3rd wasn't an egregious pick based on prior form.

It looks like the Southeast region has 4 teams pretty well situated to get in with UNC, UVA, Furman and Wake. In fact i think all 4 of those schools have enough Kolas points that we have a realistic chance of being "pushed" into the field by just beating one of them and finishing 4th. Obviously that is easier said than done based on the form we've shown so far this year, but the route to nationals is in front of us and likely doesn't even require finishing in an auto-bid spot.

The National Letter of Intent period opened today for Cross Country/Track and Field. 1 previously committed recruit has signed in Noah Valyo. Noah just became 4a State champion last weekend.

NC state also picked up a new commitment/signee today (at least nothing was previously posted on socials that i saw) in Tyler Surface. He is another local recruit from North Raleigh Christian Academy. Tyler has PB's of 4:22/9:16/14:56 and became NCISAA 4A state champ 2 weeks ago.

Men are off at regionals. Gardner, Harrison, McGoey, Gualter, Burger, Hughes, and Toomey are the 7.

Team has a small chance of making it through Kolas if they finish 5th and get pushed in by someone else. Much higher chance if they can get top 4. Team sits 7th through 3.5k.

The team has moved up to 4th through 5k. Moved up every split from 11th-7th-4th. The slow starts was what worked for them last year at regionals and nationals. Just need to hold through the final half of the race to pull of the dream.

Men are up to 3rd at the 7k split but 3-4-5 is all very tight and i'm not sure 5th gets us in though its possible depending on the other regionals.

Unreal performances from everyone, but shout to Hannes Burger and Zach Hughes, Burger was 41st at Joe Piane, DNS at Nuttycombe, DNF at ACC's then pops up 12th at regionals. Hughes is an 800 guy who has come up huge for us this year as Ian Harrison has struggled.

All regionals are done. While there could be a math error somewhere it looks like the NC State men have earned an at-large bid to Nationals per Letsrun's projections.

UP NEXT With the victory, the women's squad captured an automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Charlottesville, VA on November 18.

This weekend, #UVa is set to host the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the first time since 1987. Here are five things to know about Saturday's event at Panorama Farms.

Race schedule
The women's race, which is a 6K run, is scheduled to begin at 10:20 a.m. It will be followed by the men's race, which is a 10K event, at 11:10 a.m. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPNU.

How to get tickets
Tickets for Saturday's event are $20 and can be purchased at UVATix.com. All tickets are being sold in advance online. No on-site sales will be available. Fans ages 2 years and older will be required to have a ticket.

Parking and shuttle service
There will no on-site parking at Panorama Farms for the NCAA Championships. UVa will be providing round-trip shuttle service from Fashion Square Mall to Panorama Farms. The shuttle service is included in the price of the event ticket and does not cost any extra.

Outgoing shuttles will begin running at 6:45 a.m. and run until 9:30 a.m., while returning shuttles begin at 11 a.m. and run until 1:30 p.m.

Looks like the NC State men got 17th place. After bombing at Nuttycombe and ACC's these last 2 weeks have been so so impressive. Brett Gardner with a really strong 51st place showing.

In a race that went down to the wire, the NC State women's cross country team won its third consecutive Women's Cross Country National Championship Saturday morning at Virginia's Panorama Farms.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wolfpack won its third-straight National Title in dramatic fashion as NC State edged second-place Northern Arizona by one point in the closest team finish in NCAA DI Women's Cross Country Championship history.

NC State is the first program to win three consecutive women's cross country national titles since Stanford won three straight from 2005-07.

Katelyn Tuohy paced the Pack by finishing fifth with a time of 19:23.0 that earned her All-American honors. Amaris Tyynismaa was next for NC State, coming in at 19:55.3 to finish in 25th place and establish herself as an All-American.

Sam Bush was right behind her teammate, finishing in 28th with a time of 20:00.7. Bush also achieved All-American status. Bush passed 14 competitors in the final stage of the race to secure vital points for the Pack.

This marks the fourth cross country All-American honor for Tuohy, the third for Bush and the second (first at NC State) for Tyynismaa.

Leah Stephens and Grace Hartman rounded out the NC State scorers with Stephens finishing in 43rd place with a time of 20:08.2 and Hartman in 63rd place at 20:24.4.

In the men's race, the team finished in 17th place with 435 points. This is the men's team's ninth time finishing in the top-20 Nationally since 2002.

Brett Gardner led the way for the Pack, finishing in 30:00.1 to take 51st. After leading the men's team across the finish line last weekend at Regionals, Hannes Burger placed 71st today with a time of 30:16.1.

Toby Gualter followed up with a time of 30:34.8 that earned him 102nd. Dan McGoey and Ian Harrison rounded out the top-five for the Wolfpack, placing 112th and 190th, respectively with times of 30:39.6 and 31:37.6.

Crazy performance from the men yesterday. The way they moved up the field, particularly the top 4 runners, was astounding. It was a strategy that no one else was employing and it helped NC State to beat quite a number of teams ranked higher than them and that had beaten them at other points in the season. Especially Brett Gardner and Hannes Burger were so impressive moving up throughout the race, neither one of them or 3rd place Toby Gualter ever had a split where they were dropping back in position. Dan McGoey in 4th similarly moved up constantly throughout the race and only started to hit a wall at the last 1k and was passed by a few people. If Ian Harrison ran like he did last year and finished in 80th the team would have finished in 11th place again same as last year despite losing their star in Ian Shanklin. Despite how bad the regular season and ACC's was this 17th place finish makes this a pretty solid year. So close to a great one if we could have found that 5th runner.

22. NC State Wolfpack (Unranked)

Wow, what an incredible turnaround from the NC State men!

This team looked iffy to start the season and to be honest, they seemingly got worse as the fall months dragged on. A narrow 4th place effort at Joe Piane was underwhelming, a 31st place finish at Nuttycombe was concerning and an 8th place finish at the ACC XC Championships left us saying, "Their season will end a week early."

That, of course, didn't happen. Instead, the Wolfpack had a sudden revival to finish 3rd at the Southeast regional meet and get "pushed" into the NCAA XC Championships. There, they earned a better-than-expected 17th place finish.

I don't know what happened, but the Wolfpack looked like a completely different team once they reached the 10k racing distance.

Once that happened, Brett Gardner began to deliver low-stick-type results (51st at the national meet), Hannes Burger began to show his full value (71st at the national meet), Toby Gualter began producing the scoring impact that he was recruited out of the transfer portal for (102nd at the national meet) and Daniel McGoey continued to be very solid name for this lineup (112th at the national meet).

We do have to recognize that this team struggled (a lot) in their lead up to the postseason and that's ultimately why they aren't ranked higher. But all things considered, this was an incredibly impressive postseason peak from the NC State men.
