Montana State take Top Spot in West in Latest M2 Regional Rankings

TROY, MICH. (November 17, 2023)- The Men's Division 2 Regional Rankings for all games through November 12th have been released. This is the second of nine (9) Regional Rankings that will culminate with the Final Ranking on Tuesday, February 13th.

Central Rankings

Lindenwood University takes over in the top spot this week's rankings. The Lions split this past weekend with #5(SE) Liberty University at home, while last week's #1, University of Saint Thomas split with #5(C) University of Minnesota-Crookston. Iowa made the biggest jump this week, moving up four spots from #7 to #3 after sweeping Illinois State University, 7-4 and 5-1. Saint John's University and the University of Minnesota made their first appearance in the Top 20 at #19 and #20, respectively.

Northeast Rankings

The University of New Hampshire finds itself at the top of the mountain in this week's rankings. The Wildcats went 2-0 on last weekend, beating the University of Vermont and Norwich University. Replacing UNH in the #2 spot is Keene State College. The Owls rose from #4 last week to the strength of wins vs. #11 Sacred Heart and #8 RPI. Roger Williams has the largest upward movement, rising three places from #17 to #14. The College of the Holy Cross makes its first appearance in the NE Rankings, entering at #19.

Southeast Rankings

Indiana University was the lone #1 in the Regional Rankings to retain the spot in this week's rankings. The Hoosiers were idle this past week and take on #9(C) DePaul University this weekend. Kentucky and FGCU swapped spots with the Wildcats reaching their highest regional ranking in over a decade. University of Pennsylvania jumped two spots, from #17 to #15, making the largest move up in a largely static week. Maryland joins the Top 20 for the first time this season, coming in at #18.

West Rankings

The West saw the top two teams from Ranking #1, Dakota College and Montana State, square off in a weekend series, with the Bobcats sweeping the Jacks, 3-1 and 5-2. Those scores have resulted in MSU taking over the top spot in Ranking #2. Probably the biggest story in all of Men's Division 2 is SMU's rise in the rankings. The Mustangs catapulted 10 places from #15 to #5 this week. NAU, after announcing the team will be moving to Men's Division 1 next season, also made a big move this week, rising four spots to #7. Colorado State joins the Top 20 for the first time this season, grabbing the #20 spot.

Ultimately didn't hate the way we played tonight, but man did the penalties bite us. Their goalie was unreal again, but all four lines generated good chances most of the night. If we can just stay out of the box, we'll be just fine going forward.

Not exactly an ideal situation with a game getting scheduled a few days out after 3 weeks off the ice and in the middle of exams. Had a couple bad sequences in a row midway through the 1st, and we weren't going to suddenly flip a switch in an exhibition game at that point. We'll bury this one and get ready to hit the ground running in January.

The Pack are looking to gauge fan interest in a 2nd game against UNC at PNC Arena on February 5. This game would have the same seating and pricing structure as the previous one, but $32,000 is a lot to commit if the interest isn't there. This would replace the game that is currently scheduled for February 3 in Hillsborough. Presumably UNC's interest in moving the game is due to the fact that they host Duke in basketball at the same time, and therefore would draw even fewer fans than they normally do. Also of note - the Pack will host UNC in Morrisville on February 2 for senior night.

Good start out of the break. Pack raced out to a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes and held it there the rest of the way despite spending a TON of time in the box. Still some things to clean up, but hard to complain about that result with 7 regulars out. We'll do it again tomorrow.

Too many guys out of the lineup, not enough chemistry. Not deep enough for our bottom six to be effective. Mostly back to full strength on the road next weekend and see if we can string a few wins together. This team hasn't played anywhere near its ceiling but we're running out of resume boosting opportunities.

Still not good enough. Delaware is awful. This team just refuses to put 60 good minutes together. In fairness, this was effectively the team's first game in almost 2 months considering the roster depletion last week. Maybe we'll look better tomorrow. This group is just too talented to keep letting bad teams hang around.

Easily the most complete effort of the season from this group today. Everything looks better when the power play clicks and your top guys are producing. Pack will be back in action next weekend for a home and home set against Wake Forest.

Good enough from the boys tonight. Never felt like we were skating at more than 75%, but then again we have a short turnaround with a 12:30 start in Winston-Salem tomorrow.

Not exactly thrilled with the fact that this game was tied with 11 minutes left, but a good job by the boys of closing it out late. Had a few guys out today, which didn't help. Cox should be back next week (really need him in the lineup), Frosch may not be back until regionals. Home and home with VT up next weekend.

This group just doesn't score enough against better competition (and VT isn't even that good). Hard to feel good about 2 upcoming games against UNC and the ACCHL Tournament when the team hasn't really improved at all since September. Hopefully we get Caid Cox back Tuesday, which will at least keep things a bit more organized, but we still have way too much talent up front to not put up better numbers.

Scott Daniel is the hero in OT, redirecting home a feed from Throndson on the power play. Blowing a 3 goal lead not ideal, but the OT execution was lightyears better than Saturday. UNC up next on Friday (Invisalign) and Monday (PNC).
