The Pack notched their biggest win of the season, upsetting #6 Trine 3-2 in overtime. The Pack jumped on the Thunder early, with Emery Oliver notching a power play goal and Ricky Frosch adding another tally in the final minute of the 1st period. The rest of regulation was largely spent in the Pack defensive zone, with the Thunder finally equalizing late in the 3rd. In the 3 on 3 extra period, Zack Robinson was able to manuever around a defender on a counterattack, beating the goaltender short side to send the Pack home happy with about 2 minutes to go. Daniel Foley stopped 48 of 50 shots in his Icepack debut.

After picking up 2 wins this weekend, the Pack have successfully navigated by far the most difficult portion of the spring semester schedule. The Pack will finally return to home ice next Friday and Saturday for a pair of games against Delaware. Tickets can be purchased here.

Pack finally return to home ice. Delaware is an interesting case this year. They lost their first 11 games, but have won 5 of 6. Think they lost a ton of upperclassmen from last year's team and couldn't reload. Feels like a team we should beat easily, but we really need to bring the same effort from last weekend and start gaining some goal differential for rankings.

Pack escaped with a 3-2 win over Delaware last night. This one was hard on the eyes; so many penalties on both sides, but a lot of ours were just out of stupidity. Thankfully, Delaware just isn't very good and it didn't hurt us. That's 4 wins in a row for the Pack with a trip to Winston-Salem on tap for next Friday. Wake is terrible this year, but I've learned that anything is possible in that dump of a building, so fingers crossed for a drama-free win.

Heads up for anyone who was looking at going to the game against UNC in Hillsborough on Feb. 4, the game time has been moved up to 3:45pm. Also, I expect this game will sell out due to the relatively small rink capacity, so I would highly recommend buying tickets in advance. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here.

Alright, it's game day in Winston-Salem. Would sure be nice to avoid the BS that always seems to happen in this building. But seriously, Wake is ranked 39th out of 47 teams in the southeast region. We really do need to win big. Hopefully this young team without the bad history here can just go out, play their game, and smack around a bad opponent. Streaming available on LiveBarn.

Really nice to get out of Winston-Salem with a lopsided win like that. Wake scored 49 seconds in, but it became clear in a hurry that they don't belong on the same sheet of ice as us. We got a bit sloppy in the middle but the floodgates really opened late. Miller with a hat trick, Herman, Auriene, James with 2 each. Chase Williams also gets his first with the Pack.

Pack will be in action next weekend against Virginia Tech. Friday at home, Saturday on the road.

Had to keep this quiet for a few months, but obviously this is a huge deal. We'll see more details in the coming weeks.

First M2 Rankings of the Semester find Top Seeds for Regionals still up for grabs

Troy, Mich. (January 26, 2023): The American Collegiate Hockey Association released its latest Men's Division 2 Rankings today. These rankings are released on a weekly basis until Mid-December and then resume in early January, concluding with the Final Ranking the week of February 12th. The Top 20 for each region are listed below and full rankings can be found at M2 Ranking Page.

Northeast Region: The Owls make push to get directly to Nationals
While UMass continues to lead the Northeast, the fight for the second Nationals auto bid is just starting. Northeastern finds itself in the #2 seed in the first ranking of the semester, but Keene State is just .13 behind them. Both team have difficult matchups this weekend, with the Huskies taking on #4 Boston College and hosting #1 UMass. The Owls travel to Virginia to take on #2 in the Southeast Region, Liberty University. The battle for a guaranteed ticket to Regionals continues to see a ton of movement, as Sacred Heart jumps from #12 to #9, Vermont moves into the #10 spot, and the last potential spot between Clarkson and RPI can't get any closer as the Golden Knights have a .001 lead on the Engineers.
For information purposes, here are the Northeast Region leagues that have a regional auto bid: Northeast Collegiate Hockey Association (NECHA)
Super East Collegiate Hockey League (SECHL)

Central Region: Trine and CUW battling for Top Regional Spot
The teams took the semester break it appeared that the #2 spot in the Central was a between two teams, University of Saint Thomas and Trine University. It now appears to be a three way race as Concordia University of Wisconsin moves up to #3, passing Trine. The three teams are separated by .42 in the rating, with just under a month left in the regular season. Michigan State moved up into the important #10 seed thanks to their split with #1 Southeast FGCU in Ft. Myers. The Spartans just edged out Lake Superior State, which fell five spots from #6 to #11. The Lakers will look to rebound against Central Michigan this weekend. The race for the final spot to possibly get into the regionals has Sault College replacing University of Jamestown at #14.
For information purposes, here are the Central Region leagues that have a regional auto bid:
Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA)
Northern Collegiate Hockey League (NCHL)
Western Collegiate Club Hockey Association (WCCHA)

West Region: UCLA makes move to secure spot in Salt Lake City
While University of Mary and Montana State continue to distance themselves from the rest of the region, that rest of the Top 20 remains very fluid. Weber State, which has moved up and down from #4 to #10 in the fall, finds themselves at #3 and currently the top seed in the Regionals. University of Washington continues to rise, coming in at #6 and only .12 from #4. Utah, this year's Regionals host, moved up to #7, looking to be solidifying a chance to make a Nationals run on home ice. UCLA had the biggest change of scenery, moving from outside regional consideration at #15, to being in a position for an invitation at #9. Two teams that are chasing the Bruins for the regional spot, Northern Colorado and Loyola Marymount will square off this weekend.
For information purposes, here are the West Region leagues that have a regional auto bid:
Mountain West Collegiate Hockey League (MWCHL)
Pac Hockey (PAC)
Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference (TCHC)
Western Collegiate Hockey Conference (WCHC)

Southeast Region: Showcase weekend tightens up races
Last Weekend's Miami Showcase results seem to have set up the final couple weeks for the Southeast Region. Liberty's three game sweep, including wins over two #1 teams (FGCU and Lindenwood) have allowed them to cut into the Eagles lead for the top spot in the Region. The RedHawks struggled over the weekend, and it allowed Kentucky to jump them for the #3 seed. The TSCHL continues to have the most teams in Regional positions, with 7 of the 12 potential spots filled with members of the league. University of Michigan made the biggest move, rising six places from #16 to #10, .004 ahead of North Carolina. UM, UNC, and Louisville appear to be in a sprint to get the last assured spot to Regionals.
For information purposes, here are the Southeast Region leagues that have a regional auto bid:
Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League (ACCHL)
Colonial States Collegiate Hockey Conference (CSCHC)
Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey (MACH)
Tri-State Collegiate Hockey League (TSCHL)

Men's Division 2 postseason is broken into the two levels. The top two teams in each region receive an automatic bid to the National Tournament, making up half of the field. The other half of the field is determined in Regional Tournaments with 12 teams competing for the two remaining spots from each region. Those eight winners will then join the eight autobids in the ACHA National Championship Tournament presented by FloHockey, in Marlborough, MA on March 17-21, 2023.

Apparently something got messed up with the rankings. Our loss to Maryland in November was entered twice and our 13-4 win at Wake Forest was entered as 8-6(???). Anyway, the fix has bumped us all the way up to #10 from #13, which obviously puts us in a much better position. They won't re-release the rankings for this week, so we'll see this reflected in next week's rankings.

Game day. Pack look to keep the train rolling. VT is not great this year; both of these games are must win. We've got all 4 lines playing great hockey right now, but coach will have some tough decisions when Alex Robinson comes back next week. Also, stay tuned for the new sweater drop in about an hour.

Game day on the road. Feel like there's no way VT can hang with us for 60 minutes on back to back nights, but we need to be sharper. We have been very good in true road games this season, so we'll see what happens.

Game day in Wilmington. That program is an absolute mess right now; they have a great coach but there's just no buy in from the players. That said, they're always motivated to play against us, so we need to be ready. Daniel Foley will get the start in net. Streaming available on LiveBarn.

Pack raced out to a 3-0 lead, but essentially spent the back half of this one playing keep away - until allowing a pair of goals in the final 3 minutes. Pack have allowed a goal in the final 5 minutes in 6 of the last 7 games, not a great trend. But it is another win, tonight just very much felt like a load management effort with 2 games to come this weekend against a much better opponent in UNC.

Liberty Takes Over Top Seed in Southeast in Latest M2 Rankings

Troy, Mich. (February 2, 2023): The American Collegiate Hockey Association released its latest Men's Division 2 Rankings today. These rankings are released on a weekly basis until Mid-December and then resume in early January, concluding with the Final Ranking the week of February 12th. The Top 20 for each region are listed below and full rankings can be found at M2 Ranking Page.

Northeast: Final "Locked" Regional Spot Continues to be up for Grabs
With only two leagues in the Northeast, the #12 seed is the goal to lock in a spot for the regionals. For teams like RPI, University of Vermont, and Bridgewater State, currently #12-#14 in the latest ranking, the last two weekends will decide if their seasons will continue or end in 10 days. Sitting just outside the potential bids are Connecticut College and Clarkson University, both less than a half of a point from being in the Top 14. RPI has two games vs. higher ranked teams, a road contest at #9 Sacred Heart and home vs. #6 Boston University. Vermont has a two game homestand against the UMass teams, Amherst on Friday and Lowell on Saturday. Bridgewater has two ranked matchups as well, taking on #10 Merrimack and #6 Boston University.
For information purposes, here are the Northeast Region leagues that have a regional auto bid: Northeast Collegiate Hockey Association (NECHA)
Super East Collegiate Hockey League (SECHL)

Central: Lions and Tommies Closing in the Auto Bids with Two Rankings Left.
Lindenwood is 10 days from going wire-to-wire at the top of the Central Region. With over a half point lead on Saint Thomas and almost a full point lead for a National invitation, the Lions will look to complete their regular season run with games against #4 (SE) Miami University and #1 (W) University of Mary. On the other side of the race, UW-Eau Claire finds itself in the #14 spot and trying to get to the finish line with a chance to head to St. Louis. The Blugolds have a two game set with a team chasing them, in #17 Marquette University. Also chasing a regional spot, is University of Jamestown who takes on #7 (W) Dakota College for two games, and Sault College, who hosts #9 Michigan State for two games.
For information purposes, here are the Central Region leagues that have a regional auto bid:
Mid-America Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA)
Northern Collegiate Hockey League (NCHL)
Western Collegiate Club Hockey Association (WCCHA)

Southeast: The Flames Move Past FGCU for the #1 Spot
The Flames find themselves 10 days from being the top seed of the Region, moving past FGCU for the first time this season. The race for the spot is the closest of the four regions with LU holding a .15 lead. The final outcome seems to be still very fluid as FGCU finishes their regular season with two games in Florida vs. #2(NE) Northeastern University. Liberty will have their final home games against #4(NE) Bentley University in Lynchburg. LU will then hit the road the final weekend to New England to take on RPI, UMass, and Keene State. With four league auto bids in the Southeast, only teams in the top 10 of the region are safe in their invites. For the second week in row, that last slot was been filled by the University of Michigan. The Wolverines are trying to hold off Maryland, North Carolina, and North Carolina State, all of whom are less than a third of point away. UM can solidify its position with two home games vs. #3 Kentucky, while Maryland will take on #20 Rider and University of Delaware. UNC and NCSU square off in a home and home that will most likely break their "tie" as North Carolina is ahead of NC State by .001.
For information purposes, here are the Southeast Region leagues that have a regional auto bid:
Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League (ACCHL)
Colonial States Collegiate Hockey Conference (CSCHC)
Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey (MACH)
Tri-State Collegiate Hockey League (TSCHL)

West: University of Northern Colorado Moving Back Up the rankings.
A week ago, UNC was moving in the wrong direction, falling from #8 to #11, and out of a guaranteed regional invite. After a California swing vs. UCLB, UCLA, and LMU, the Bears jumped back up into the top 10. Northern Colorado will finish off their regular season this weekend with a game vs. Colorado State and await their seeding for the BHMC Tournament. For teams looking to put themselves in position for a Wild Card spot, the distance between #11 and #15 is continuing to shrink. Williston State, sitting one place out of a possible Regional spot, is only .04 behind Loyola Marymount for #14 and .36 from the #11 seed. The Tetons will have a chance to make a move when they welcome in #5 UM-Crookston for two games. LMU will wrap up their regular season with a game against #11 UCLA. In between the Bruins and Loyola, #13 MSU-Denver takes on #4 Denver and the University of Colorado, while #12 Cal-Berkeley is off this weekend.
For information purposes, here are the West Region leagues that have a regional auto bid:
Mountain West Collegiate Hockey League (MWCHL)
Pac Hockey (PAC)
Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference (TCHC)
Western Collegiate Hockey Conference (WCHC)

Men's Division 2 postseason is broken into the two levels. The top two teams in each region receive an automatic bid to the National Tournament, making up half of the field. The other half of the field is determined in Regional Tournaments with 12 teams competing for the two remaining spots from each region. Those eight winners will then join the eight autobids in the ACHA National Championship Tournament presented by FloHockey, in Marlborough, MA on March 17-21, 2023.

The league has kinda been making it up as they go along this season, but tonight's game against UNC will decide the ACCHL Premier South Division. We need a win in regulation to tie UNC in points (tiebreaker to us by virtue of win over Penn State) and clinch the #2 seed and a first round bye in the ACCHL Tournament next weekend.

Tomorrow's game at UNC does not count in the ACCHL standings, but both games are still huge for impact to ACHA postseason positioning. We could knock UNC out of Regionals with a sweep. Right now the rankings show UNC as 0.001 points ahead of us, but they still didn't fix the errors from last week, so take those with a grain of salt for now. Just keep winning.

A 1-0 Pack lead after 50 minutes turned into a chaotic track meet down the stretch, as the teams traded goals leading up to Garrett Auriene's go-ahead goal with 1:30 left. A good bounce back effort after last night's game.

The Pack will open ACCHL Tournament play in Winston-Salem on Friday at 3pm against Virginia Tech. Tickets are available here.
