Canes clinch a playoff spot for the 7th year in a row last night with a resounding 5-1 win over the Capitals. The Canes jumped out 3-0 in the first with two PP goals, then Stankoven scored the 4th goal on a great shot after a great Roslovic pass to set him up.

Two BS calls by the refs gave Washington a 5 on 3 and Ovechkin got a goal to make it 4-1 at the end of two. Then things got chippy.

Tom Wilson, who IMO is one of the dirtiest players in the NHL, had crossed checked Burns earlier in the game from behind(no penalty) and hit him in a place where he had no padding. You could hear Burns groan after the hit. In the 3rd they were getting run out of the building and he took a run at Aho. Aho spun away and he ran right into the boards right by the benches and I believe hurt himself. He was mouthing with Aho trying to get him to fight. Then there was a scrum at the Caps net and things got crazy. Wilson was fighting Stankoven and Logan held his own against a much bigger guy. Both got fighting majors and game misconducts and were tossed.

More fights and Jankowski and Jost were tossed along with two Caps. Then Chatfield and McMichael got into it and Chatfield slammed him to the ice and maybe gave him a concussion when his head hit the ice. They were tossed. In total The Caps had 74 penalty minutes and the Canes had 68. Aho, Slavin, and Jarvis did not play any the last 5 minutes of the game. Both benches were very sparse.

Anderson was really good in net and Ovechkin's goal was just unstoppable. Otherwise they did a pretty good job on him. Svech did not play in the 3rd period. Don't know if he tweaked something or maybe got sick, but will find out. The teams meet in Washington next week and the Caps will try to intimidate again, but the Canes did not back down at all. Here are the highlights.

Canes have now won 12 out of the last 14.

Forgot to mention that Jackson Blake had two goals last night. Both on the power play. The second one, he completely undressed the goal tender to score. A great move. Here is that video.
