Especially since Necas and Drury have played pretty well for Colorado. I personally don't think they will trade Mikko, but I am not in the room with Tulsky and his staff.FlossyDFlynt said:
Im going to be sick if we traded Necas/Drury to only turn around and flip Mikko to another team
I dont either, I think they are keeping all options available. Lebrun just posted that Mikko let the Canes know he isnt ready to make a decision on the contract offer, which I dont blame him for that. Each side has to do what they think is best, and I think Tulsky is just covering all possibilitesDrummerboyWolf said:Especially since Necas and Drury have played pretty well for Colorado. Lets see the return before we say that. If its Wyatt Johnston or Logan Stankoven, Ill be happy with it. If the numbers out there that Mikko turned down here (seen 12.5 all the way up to 13.25), you cant let him walk this summer.DrummerboyWolf said:
ESPN is reporting that Rattannen will be traded to Dallas if he signs the extension. If this happens, then Tulsky has laid a big egg with his first big trade.
Mikko Rantanen and the Dallas Stars are closing in on an extension
— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) March 7, 2025
8 years, $12M AAV. Would get the deal done.
Mikko Rantanen to the Stars with an 8 year extension in place, sources told ESPN. In return, Canes getting two first round picks, two third round picks, and Logan Stankoven.
— Emily Kaplan (@emilymkaplan) March 7, 2025
it's not bad in the grand scheme of things, but Carolina is taking a loss here on paper. Not sure if it's a locker room loss though.FlossyDFlynt said:Mikko Rantanen to the Stars with an 8 year extension in place, sources told ESPN. So basically Necas/Drury for Stankoven, Hall, two first round picks, and two third round picks. While it doesnt help for the playoffs, thats not a bad return for players who didnt want to be here (Necas and Mikko)
This is a great way for #Canes fans to learn more about the team's newest forward.

Kudos to the @DallasStars for the extremely well-produced piece.https://t.co/IXNyF2H9m0
Tend to agree, but I didnt see this as a Cup team even with Mikko. So now we have a young gun under our control until 2030 (I think, could be off) and all signs point toward a Taylor Hall extension with a ton of draft assets to work with come free agency. To me, thats the best of what turned into a bad situation, so Ill take ithokiewolf said:it's not bad in the grand scheme of things, but Carolina is taking a loss here on paper. Oh I know Mikko did not play well against the Bruins, but that was the night before the trade deadline and he probably knew that he was moving again. I think he played hard for most of his time here, but sometimes it's just not the right fit.FlossyDFlynt said:
If you watch how they played against the Bruins vs how they played the Jets last night, I think its pretty clear what the problem was
Felt like Mikko never wanted to be in Carolina. That definitely has an effect on the locker room. Game yesterday was great except the PP, though they had some really great opportunities. Feel like there's a lot of hesitation to just pull the trigger.FlossyDFlynt said:

Don't know if this or true or not, but last night during the broadcast, it seemed to me that Tripp and Shane Willis were intimating that locker room was much better after the trade deadline. Shane said they were not trying to implicate Mikko in that assumption, but to me it sounds like he was not a good fit in the Canes locker room.
Good to know.Cornpack said:DrummerboyWolf said:

According to Rod on the Canes Corner podcast, when Mikko got there he told them that there were 4 teams he'd play for and we weren't one. During negotiations, Colorado asked if he'd sign here, and they said yes as a negotiating tactic because they didn't think he'd actually be traded.

Are you saying that the Canes asked Colorado if Mikko would sign here and they said yes, although we were not one of the teams he said he would play for? Do I have that right?
Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.Cornpack said:DrummerboyWolf said:Good to know.Cornpack said:DrummerboyWolf said:

The Canes asked Colorado if Mikko would be open to re-signing, Colorado asked Mikko, Mikko told Colorado yes, Colorado told us yes.
Colorado didn't lie to us, they were lied to as well. Mikko and his agent didn't tell them the truth because they were just acting like it was a negotiating tactic and not a real possibility.
