NC State women's soccer (4-0-1) passed its first road test of the year as it took down Virginia Commonwealth (3-1-1), 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va.

VCU's Anna Bagley tallied her second goal of the season in the 44th minute to give her team the one-goal lead heading into the locker room at half time, but goals by Mikhail Johnson (63rd minute) and Cara Elmendorf (78th minute) kept the Wolfpack undefeated on its season.

Jameese Joseph was credited with the assist on both goals, which were her first of the year.

For Elmendorf, it was the first goal of her career, while for Johnson, it was her first of the year and second in her career.

The Pack returns to action March 20 when it hosts Wake Forest in a nonconference matchup at 1 p.m. at Dail Soccer Stadium. The program will honor its senior class of Jessica Berlin, Mackenzie Crittenberger, Mikhail Johnson and Hope McQueen prior to kickoff.

SCOUTING WAKE FOREST
Wake Forest opened the spring portion of its schedule on March 6 with a 2-0 loss at Tennessee. The squad compiled a 3-5-1 record in the fall portion against a tough conference-only slate.

Sophie Faircloth is the leading goal scorer for the Demon Deacons with three, and she was voted to the ACC All-Freshman Team in the 2020 season. Sofia Rossi and Ryanne Brown are also multi-goal scorers with two apiece, as the three field players account for seven of the team's nine goals.

Wake Forest lost All-ACC honoree Hannah Betfort from the fall, as she was selected by Portland Thorns FC in the 2021 NWSL Draft.

Goalkeepers Madison Howard, Kaitlyn Parks and Mia Raben all returned to this spring's squad, as the trio has split time in goal and compiled a 1.95 goals-against average.
