Definitely not me, lol.

There's a March sale on Bulleit 95% Rye at the ABC for anyone interested. I just snagged 750 mL, have found it versatile for marinades and cocktails. My spouse hates a sweet tasting steak, so I use it instead of Bourbon in those marinades.

Bullett 12-year Rye at ~$50 is a great value and a great bourbon-friendly Rye.

Health benefits of whiskey compiled from grok.ai…..

Whiskey when consumed in moderation has been linked to a few potential health benefits. The key word here is moderation (generally defined as up to 1 drink per day for women and up to 2 for men). Here's what research suggests:

Heart Health Support
Whiskey contains antioxidants like ellagic acid, which may help reduce oxidative stress. Moderate alcohol intake has also been associated with:
  • Increased "good" HDL cholesterol
  • Improved circulation
  • Lower risk of blood clots
Potential Cognitive Benefits
Some studies suggest light to moderate alcohol consumption may be linked to a lower risk of conditions like Dementiaand Alzheimer's disease, possibly due to improved blood flow and antioxidant effects.

Lower Sugar Impact
Unlike many cocktails or beers, straight whiskey contains:
  • No carbohydrates
  • No sugar
This can make it a lower-impact option for blood sugar compared to sugary alcoholic drinks (though it still affects metabolism).

Antioxidant Properties
Whiskeyespecially aged varietiescontains plant compounds that can help neutralize free radicals, potentially reducing cellular damage over time.

Stress Relief & Relaxation
Alcohol can have short-term calming effects by depressing the central nervous system, which may help reduce stress in the moment.

Important Caveats
  • Excess consumption reverses benefits and increases risk of liver disease, high blood pressure, certain cancers, and addiction.
  • Alcohol is not recommended as a health strategyyou shouldn't start drinking for these benefits.
  • Individual responses vary based on genetics, medications, and overall health.
If you want, I can compare whiskey to wine or beer in terms of health effectsthat's where things get more nuanced.

I just mixed up a cocktail of Bulleit, orange juice and lemonade to watch the Artemis splashdown.

Buffalo Trace, I stocked up on a bunch when I was passing through Fort Mill South Carolina at a place called Frugal MacDoogal. It's really hard to find here around the house. As for price, I think it's cheaper than Jack and Beam. Some folks here may know or remember what the price is.

Went to my local shop and had a choice between EH Taylor Straight Rye ($90) and Elijah Craig 15 year ($150).

Went with the EC15. Never had either. Was that a good or bad call?

I like the EC15 quite a bit. Fairly sweet, and not overly woody like the EC18 is. Best Elijah Craig release since C923 in my opinion. Good proof point (108 proof) and fairly priced for a 15-year product. Now, is it as good as Russels15 or Jack14?? No...but it's not absurd mentioning them in the same sentence...which for my money, is a big win for EC. Good on Heaven Hill for getting their stuff together on this one. I had all but given up on the EC brand...glad I decided to pick this one up when the opportunity presented itself. Bit of a redemption story, to say the least.
