In Raleigh for the game this evening. Stopped at 2 ABC Stores already looking for Old Raleigh Savage Rye and am striking out… if anybody has a tip on a store that still has it, hit a brother up!

Was going to finally get the leaves up. We have a lot, but with the rain and wind, that's going to wait until next weekend. Got my eye on some Buffalo for later.

It's probably a drive for you, but some weeks ago when I went to the Youngsville ABC, they had a respectable quantity in there.

I miss hitting up that store. We had a large project around there and I always made a trip there on Friday's.

Wake County inventory search page might be a good one for these also. It works fairly well for non-allocated items.

Thanks for this! The very first store I went to last Saturday was the 665 Cary Towne Boulevard location (same place I bought my first two), and there was nothing on the shelves and nobody working there even knew what I was talking about... If I had known about this (it says they have 9 in stock), I would have forced them to go look for it. The other store I checked was at Mission Valley.

Looks like I could have gone into almost any other store and gotten one, lol... well, sometimes that's just how life goes unfortunately.

Yeah, it's a good one. Not sure I will buy as much in the near term, the sawbones is telling me I may have early stage kidney disease so I've gone to a strict consumption regimen and diet for the next ninety days or so until they decide if I need to see a nephrologist or not.

Thanks! Yeah, hopefully a nothingburger but I gotta be careful until they get a handle on what's causing my eGFP marker to drop precipitously. Meanwhile, since Savage is pretty pricy for cooking use, I've switched to Bulleit for steak marinades since it's 95% rye and NO corn…my wife hates anything that would cause her steak to taste sweet-ish, which is why I avoid bourbon except for chicken marinades.

I did once, over on the second-created bourbon site on the WC….IIRC, it was my chargrilled whiskey-blood orange chicken breasts….my spouse's absolute fav.
Edit: just realized I still have it on my I-phone, here it is….

Yup, demand is falling after many producers had increased production over the last decade. Part of the problem is that the market changed and bourbon's popularity increased in the 00's, but the industry was weary after a period of time called "the glut" in the industry when they had more product than they could sell, so they were slow to increase production. By the time you build additional facilities, get everything up and running, distill spirit, barrel it, and wait for it to mature, well now you're 8-10 years down the line from the initial demand. Hopefully a market downturn will be good for consumers if prices come down and age statements go up like they did in the past. Not good for the folks that make their living in that business though.

I don't keep up with it nearly as much as I used to. I've read a ton of books about bourbon and distilling and all that stuff, was definitely a passion for a time. Then one day you realize you have more bourbon that you could drink in a responsible manner in a lifetime, and just wonder why.

I inherited my father-in-law's Louis L'amour library…before that, I didn't much realize that in the olden days, farmers used to use their excess grains as a side hustle to generate cash via distilling. Interesting that the first serious national uprising was over whiskey and that George Washington personally led a force to deal with the rebellion.
