Was just at the new ABC store on Salisbury street downtown. They had a huge wall of the large BTs. For the lovers, go get it!!

What's ballpark price tag for that?

I didn't look closely but BT is not expensive.

Had a birthday a little while ago and a friend gave me one of the 1L Buffalo Trace bottles he bought locally here in Wilmington, which was the first I had heard of the 1L bottles being in state since I haven't been hunting much lately.
320 on ignore and counting. Maybe you'll be next!

My local ABC store here in Wake County had a 1L, last one and I bought it. First time I've ever seen it.

Local ABC has an October sale on Makers! Unfortunately, I was low on cash and needed to get Rye for a steak marinade, so settled for Elijah Craig straight rye. Since it's "balanced with corn for smooth taste", why do they call it "straight"?

By definition, straight rye is at least 51% rye and aged at least four years unless age stated lower on the bottle.

Yes. I got a feeling this product just meets the definition judging from the snort I had when I got it home. I like a high rye content for steak marinades, hope this works.

Pretty sure all of the rye that Heaven Hill makes is of the barely legal variety. They make my favorite cheap rye, Rittenhouse. Course, I'm not a big eye guy, so that's probably why I like it.

I've heard of Rittenhouse, never tried it. It turns out that this Copper Fox original Rye that I picked up in Virginia (and have since run out of) was like 2/3 rye and 1/3 barley, which explains its distinctive "dry" flavor….but my spouse totally loved the steak I marinated it in, so as need to run out and get something like that

This whole thing is confusing. Only $1 more for another 33.33% of volume?

Makes me wonder if I'm not remembering the 750mL still being in the high $20's not too long ago... wondering if it's more of an inventory thing and maybe they are phasing out the 750mL and transitioning longterm to the 1L?

Heck, I don't know - but something doesn't make sense.

Also, noticed that the 1L has already changed bottle design, because I have one of both right now.

Been rumors over the years that distillers want to transition to 700ml instead of 750 as 700 is what they typically use abroad. I haven't actually seen the 1L in person in a store, so I'm not sure what they're doing with pricing. I know that BT makes minis, pints ,750, 1L and half gallons because I've had all of those at one point in time or the other.

Sounds like shrinkflation to me.

I hope you're enjoying it. Honestly, this EC straight rye I picked up is a bit disappointing relative to other ryes I've tried, notably Savage Rye and Copper Fox original rye. Some months ago on this thread, someone was saying some not very complimentary words about EC…..I can see why, although I admit I've not tried EC's full repertoire.

So I was at my ABC store today and I saw an employee take an EH Taylor single barrel off the shelf and put it under their register. Heard them admit it was for them to purchase when they got off their shift, so wasnt any type of mandatory allocation. Peeked back there on my way out and also saw a bottle of Stagg Jr. Is that legal for employees to do?

At the counties that haven't stopped them from doing it yet. There was one down here selling stuff online for years until they finally caught on and put some systems in place.

If you care, call that county's main office and tell them what you saw and ask them why it's happening.

I may do it, just a bummer because I'm a big fan of EH Taylor small batch so I've always wanted to try one of their rarer offerings. This was the first time I've seen it at MSRP and not 2-3x markup in another state.

It was odd because they had the small batch in the bourbon section, but without a tag (their truck came in today). I told them I have a backup bottle at home, so I'll leave it for the next, but asked them if they could ring it up to see the price, since there wasn't a tag. The lady at the register told me that's not their regular offering; that's the Bottled in Bond! (Which the base offering always is). Once she rung it up to check the cost, she saw it was only $50 and said, 'I don't want this one, I want THAT one!" and pointed across the store to the Canadian whiskey section where they'd hidden the EH Taylor Single Barrel that I didn't see. The other employee walked over, grabbed it, and hid it away under the counter never to be seen again.

Even more frustrating because she didn't know the difference between the two!

Since each of the ABC boards set their own rules to some degree, whether or not an employee is allowed to pull something off the shelf to save for themselves may be down to what their board has said. I can tell you, however, that it is common practice, allowed or not.

That makes sense. Doesn't give me much hope that I'm going to see anything exciting or new since they're just hoarding it all for themselves.

Tried a new one (for me) last night and really enjoyed it...Green River wheated bourbon. A friend gave it to me and I probably would have never bought it myself. I think I'll keep this one in the cabinet at all times going forward.
