Whether you were a country music fan or not, Dolly was one of the all time greats. A cultural icon .

I have memories of her from the 1960's when my mama watched the Porter Wagoner Show.

The woman's singing voice had the greatest pitch. She could hit a high note that could make you cry.

"Jolene" was one of my all time favorites. It was also based on a true story.

A good hearted person as well. Quite the activist and humanitarian.

I'm sitting out on my back porch taking in the evening sounds. That includes neighbors two doors down who have the music cranked up and I can hear her singing "nine to five". Great American life story.

Makes me think of my grandmother. Being a little kid and her smoking cigarettes and listening to Dolly.

Her voice and songwriting talent were otherworldly. But in an era where self-absorbed demons are being put on pedestals, her incredible generosity of spirit is what truly stands out... philanthropy aside, every public interaction she ever had exuded humility and kindness. You couldn't not love the lady.

We lost one of the good ones today.

I remember when she got her own variety show for maybe a couple of years (had to be sometime in the mid 70's)... show began with her swinging in some kind of dolled up chair swing, ended with her signing a portion of her most famous song. That was a long time ago. She accomplished many amazing things over the years...

I was blessed enough to see her twice. Once in the late 60's with Porter Wagner at Goldsboro High School, the other was in 1986 at Reynolds Col. with Kenny Rogers. Amazing talent and even better person.

That's what made Dolly a unique individual. She wasn't on a star trip.

The best part was the comedian Gallagher opened up for both. We we sitting by on of the entrance upstairs and Kenny Roger actually came out to "Lady" about 3 feet from me. Thought I was going to have to tackle my ex wife. Round catwalk stage on the floor, band in the pit below

Glass, I think I was at the show as well. I remember seeing Kenny Rogers at Reynolds and I think it was Dolly. Now, I know that Dottie West and Crystal Gayle performed with Kenny in Reynolds, in the same time-frame.

BTW, Reynolds was never a great venue for music. I saw Loverboy, Eddie Murphy, Rush and others at Reynolds. Also, I saw Porter Wagner at the Grand Ole Oprey in one of (if not) last performance at that great venue.
