If this belongs on Water Cooler please move. Unrelated I heard yesterday from what I would consider a good source that our WBB staff will not go to NABC unless we make the FF, due to expense controls in the athletics department.

I'm not going to venture into, nor turn this into the cesspool that is the Water Cooler, but University budgets/spending and the cost of attendance aren't a 1:1 correlation. Cutting over $200M from universities in this state is not what I would consider positive.

I think State Universities should be self supportive or State supported. The Federal Government shouldn't be part of the equation…

I think State Universities should be self supportive or State supported. The Federal Government shouldn't be part of the equation…


Without Federal money, a lot of state universities would suffer dearly , including NCSU. Cutbacks by the state legislature for 2025 is already happening. Just a fact of operation.

The US government has $36.5 Trillion in debt and spending cuts must occur. Even if they taxed the 1% at 100% this would only fund US Government for less than six months.

If NC State, a state institution, has to freeze hiring then so be it.

AS for WBB going to NABC the annual Day of Giving is coming up in March, they could put up a link then.

Without Federal money, a lot of state universities would suffer dearly , including NCSU. Cutbacks by the state legislature for 2025 is already happening. Just a fact of operation.
It is what it is…. Start acting like a responsible University and balance your budget. This is no different than a business bailout. The country is broke (35T plus in debt) and people, business, and academics, need to figure things out, on their own…

No public universities in NC are 50k. State and unc are about the same for tuition and fees @ around 9k. Tuition has remained the same for at least 4 years and I believe is locked in once you enroll for 4-5 years. Room and board are what they are. All in if you're on campus is about $33k. Not sneezing at 33k but that's not $50k and other state schools are less. No it's not $700 like when I was in school but houses don't cost 50k, new cars aren't 5k and you can't get a meat and 3 for $2.50 either.

I say this in all seriousness. Wes needs a strong 6'2 - 6'4 PF/ #4 to replace Madison for next season. Contribute to WBB NIL to help with this need. Yes they should go up the annual coaches conference. But we got to have a stronger WBB NIL to stay competitive with other P4 schools. That is a priority for what Wes needs for next season. Go Pack !

fundamentally, there are a lot of things that Universities can do to be more efficient. Does every department need its own building that only gets used 25% of the time?

But, there is still a purpose for federally driven things in education to push research and development. It's foolish to not make that investment as a country when all of our enemies do it.

Universities need professors back in the classroom. They need to quit worrying about being published, pier reviewed, etc…. I'm still a believer that alumni, businesses, Private Equity, etc… can fund research.

And… yes, I'm confident every University can tighten their belt and become more efficient…

All you need to do is look at a line graph of administration role growth over the past 30 years to spot the issue with public institutions. No different than the federal government where it's constant add, add add and never trim or lean it out. Ever. It should be run like a publicly traded company, every 18 months you trim the bottom 18% or so of lowest performers/low ROI roles.

yes that's what should happen, unfortunately that's not what the law cuts are going to accomplish. I'm interested to see how folks are going to deal with Pell Grants and HSBCUs. Guess we just close them.

Surely no one believes there's not waste in the government, including within the DOE? At the end of the day, useful and actual beneficial programs likely won't be cut but you might see a LOT less administration which is desperately needed.

oh I agree, I think that the avenue of taking a wood chipper to a budget when a meat cleaver is just as fine will have unintended future consequences
