That sucks. They become such a big part of the family.

Was just reading that about Ben. It's heartbreaking, but just another anecdotal evidence that dogs are the best

They just did a tribute to Ben during the Alabama/LSU game. Herbstreit is a pro. I couldn't have gotten through that on the air without breaking down, then composed myself enough to call the game. His voice wavered a bit, but he powered through.

Here's the tribute they did for Ben today on College Gameday. I have watched in a dozen times today and I still get misty eyed.

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

I saw the Herbstreit thing live yesterday and thought it was a little over the top and kind of narcissistic if I'm being honest. We all enjoyed seeing Ben out there as why wouldn't we - but he's not "America's Dog" anymore than any other dog out there in a loving home is... I know what they were trying to do, but I felt it was in poor taste and not something that needed to have it's own special segment on.

There. I said it.

Have had to do this 3 times...one dog and 2 cats. I know this is a pro dog crowd, but you get attached to and love any pet you have. Last time was May 2021, our oldest cat was 14 1/2. Smartest cat we've ever had...smarter than half the people that I've known in my life.
Mainly an outdoor cat, which makes her age even more amazing.
Brilliant hunter. I got to watch her be a predator many times. Just like watching a big cat on TV. Amazing. Got her and her sister from a neighbor down the road. When our girl died, her mother was still living at 16. Smart, sweet, sassy, did things at her speed, except when we shook the bag of treats. A beautiful tuxedo cat. We love and miss all of our pets.

Sort of an update. We have decided as a family that the time has come for us to bring another rescue into our lives. This poor thing was abandoned in a home when the owners left/moved. I'll post pics if it happens. Raleigh (our other dog) needs a friend and I think my heart is ready to be inevitably broken again. Merry Christmas to all of you!

Well folks, it's been a couple of months since my little buddy Kiwi left us. I didn't think I'd be ready for another dog for a very long time after that. Turns out I was wrong. My wife had started checking the rescue websites when she came across a dog that was abused and abandoned in a house when her owners moved. She sent me a picture and this dog spoke to me. We adopted her and she's amazing. Poor thing was scared of everything when she first came to us, but I'm happy to report that in the last couple of weeks she's really settled in and become a different dog. Tons of personality and the sweetest temperament. She loves nothing more than to be petted and to be near you. We named her Charleston (where I'm from) and she gets along great with our other dog Raleigh.

Hope everyone is having a great start to the New Year!
