Here's what I'll say about AOC, and it's the same with Obama and with Harris. I wouldn't underestimate her at the moment (and this isn't me cheerleading for her) but much like the other two, she comes from a district that is heavily democratic so she has a lot to learn.
Obama was able to do to, Harris either wasn't or her hubris got in the way. Time will tell which way AOC can go, but it's too early still to think she's not going to learn and adjust.
Obama is a much more polished and intelligent politician than both AOC and Kamala combined. AOC reportedly spent months preparing for Munich only to vomit a bunch of word salad all over herself. If she has any hope whatsoever for the White House, itll have to wait until 2032. She may be one day, but she is not even close to ready for the big stage yet.
Kamala tried something similar last week with her rebrand/launch/whatever you want to call it with predictable results.
Right now, Id say Gavin is in the drivers seat. Which...sure I guess. He will get obliterated on the national stage, but I honestly dont know who else could possibly through their hat in from the Dems at this point.
We can dispense with acting like presidents get elected for reasons other than vibes, until noted otherwise.
Trump would get up on stage, babbling about eating cats and dogs in Springfield and not making a bit of sense about much else, and got elected because of hopes and dreams about what he could do with immigration and the economy, and people being pissed they felt like Biden's mental decline was hidden from the public (at the end, it definitely was).
Obama is a multi-generational orator, smart as ****, and savvy as hell so yeah...AOC and Kamala aren't in his league because he was a GOAT in front of a microphone.
Kamala has zero shot in 28.
AOC is a high ceiling/low floor candidate. She's really bright, with a true populist appeal. She absolutely nails the right vibe for fighting for the working class and she's very savvy. But, unless she shifts towards the center some, she's too far left.
I'd be curious for you to post her "word salad"; what I heard from her in Munich was cogent but obviously it may have been her best clip I was seeing. And again, "word salad" compared to who? Trump can't string more than two short sentences together without getting completely off-subject or lapsing into total nonsense. AOC would absolutely destroy Trump in a moderated debate.
Why do you think Newsom would get "obliterated" on a national stage? His electability is quite debatable due to governing maybe the most liberal state in the country, but he comports himself just fine in front of a mic.
Like Smapty said, there's nothing Newsom or any candidate has done or embodies, that Trump doesn't next-level. There's not a candidate in the field that couldn't talk circles around him, or be more organized, rational, kind, compassionate, serious, professional, respectful...
Putting Trump in office for a second time given all his failings has put Pubs in a bad spot. There's not a thing they can complain about, about literally anyone else's qualifications, humility, behavior, professionalism, maturity, or any other professional or personal trait that doesn't make them look like a giant hypocrite given the guy they put in office based on nothing but vibes.
