Been 8 times…. It's always a great experience! Never forget my first time, seeing the grass for the first time amazed me! Heck, I thought it was artificial it was so perfect.
I wish I could offer up a way to get tickets; however, I'm related to the golf industry, so my tickets are always open for me (and me only)…
the next time you go, would you mind doing a daily topic of sights and experiences from being there?
I think it would be interesting for those who follow golf to read your experience vs what we see on tv
For those that haven't been.. as awesome as it appears on TV, it doesn't do it justice for what it really is. I have a couple of thoughts:
- The conditions of the course are SICK!
- The conditions where the patrons walk (outside the ropes) are spectacular
- The elevation change is incredible (TV does not show the amount of elevation change)
- The undulations of the greens is unbelievable
- Amen corner is smaller than you might think
- You can literally walk up to Butler cabin (can't go in of course)
- The sandwiches are inexpensive and fantastic (can't remember the Woman's Auxiliary that does them)
- The reason you never see any trash on the course (all food and beverage items) is because they package everything in green
- The road that the August National golf course is on kind of reminds me of our Capital Blvd in Raleigh. As you drive, all of a sudden you start to see trees and then Magnolia lane is right there. I highly recommend everyone do a Google Map search to see this.
- There is so much more; however, to me, if you aren't even a golf fan, being there is a once in a lifetime experience
I've been to practice sessions as well as event session. Practice sessions tickets are available walking around, kind of like going to a NC State FB game. Personally, I don't go anymore because I just enjoy watching on TV, much like NC State sports…
If you can't get tickets for the weekend, go to a practice day. They are tons of fun!! Actually, if I were to go again, it will be for the practice sessions…. BTW, my brother has an inside the ropes pass.
