Maybe. Seems like a funny action to take if one is afraid of Putin's nuclear saber rattling. Seems like a fine line or maybe No line between supplying the Ukraine and establishing a no-fly zone in the eyes of someone like Putin. I do have to wonder though, how Putin's far eastern partner feels about being caught up in a nuclear war because Putin got triggered, and for that matter, if the Chinese have a solid understanding of Putin's mental state. Just speculating because Xi might be the key to ending this war without ending the world.

Actually, if this isn't a clear message that they only care about their environmentalist agenda, nothing is. Pragmatism isn't even a mindset they have.

We agree!

Look, I care about the environment as much as any reasonable person. I love the SC lowcountry, the NC mountains, and recent trips to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons are just stunning -- and I want all those things, and the wildlife that lives within it to be safely preserved for generations to come, etc.

But this is just dumb, and the fact they'd look towards either Venezuela or the Middle East should be a freaking recall-worthy.
We can all hope that we move towards renewables, and I'm good with investing there to some degree, but come on....

I'm not an environmentalist, the way they are projected nowadays... That said, I am a conservative and with that, a conservationalist.

I'm not against any form of energy (I do like my Mercedes with its V8 gas engine); however, this mad rush to green this, green that, is not good. We have to plan this in a functional way.

Russia is not functional!!

That's the mentality they have. They're smarter than everyone of us. We can't produce oil and gas here because of the environment. But it's OK to ask the rest of the world to step up their production.

Psaki tells everyone that opening back up the Keystone pipeline is not an option because it's years before it would help. (Halted 14 months ago) But this is why we should be moving towards green energy, which oh by the way is even more years away from being beneficial.

They really just think you and I and everybody else are just stupid!

This is what bothers me --- this group is cutting off their noses (actually, all of our noses) to spite their face --- and telling us we are bad people if we disagree.

Lets just say I have zero faith in this administration opening up US production, given what they have done the last few days.

If you are at the point of begging Venezuela and Saudi for oil instead of opening production, I dont see how banning Russian oil changes that

Band-Aid on a broken leg

I am fine with banning Russian oil. If you actually want to use sanctions that could actually make a difference, this is a good option. Doing so without any sort of plan to replace said oil is just plain stupid. Reaching out to a socialist Russian ally and the Saudi royals isnt a good option either.

Its getting to the point where I am not sure it matters who the Pubs run in 24, they will romp.

Maybe they don't or maybe they do. Regardless, if the Senate can be flipped, you flip it. If they don't do what they say, vote them out in the massive 2024 wave and move on. I don't care how or why but things HAVE GOT TO CHANGE in the house.and senate in November.

That's only a stop gap measure... we need ongoing production! Make us energy independent again for god's sake!

Our production is steadily increasing and has been ever since August 2020, before which it had dipped due to COVID.

US Oil Industry Prepares to Boost Production

People hear about the Keystone pipeline permitting and they think Biden literally shut off existing oil production, which isn't what happened. Keystone would have built additional capacity and killing the permit rattles the oil market some but it didn't directly impact current production. Oil production is sharply up over the last 18 months.

Quote:

U.S. oil production had plunged during the early months of the pandemic, driving dozens of oil companies into bankruptcy and forcing others to retrench and shut down new drilling. But since August 2020, it has roared back, adding 2 million barrels per day to reach 11.6 million barrels per day by late February, and forecasters expect that figure to climb by another 1 million barrels by the end of the year.

Also energy independence is a misnomer. In 2019 went from being a net importer to a (mild) net exporter but we were still importing 8 million barrels a day immediately pre-COVID. People hear "energy independence" and they think "independent from our need for foreign oil" but that's not at all where we were/are.
