And before anyone dismisses article coming from Fox News it was taken verbatim from the most left leaning outlet that exists... "The Atlantic." Wanted to save some of you the embarrassment by disregarding it because the link is to Fox News. The "fact check clown" really said it all... "I'm going to focus more on congress..." What a damn joke that network is. I'll lump all the flunkies that espouse their talking points here and anywhere else along with them. Journalism has been dead in this country for decades. President Trump had the balls to call them out on it.

The end game is 2022..... when they silence the conservatives they can control the narrative going into 2022. They pick up 1 senate seat game over. They know that Manchin is going to block the far left agenda. Control the medial control the people.

all this mass censorship is very worrying for me, its crucial to keep things out in the open.

If not you push people to the dark corners of the internet and there's no telling what can brew in those nasty echo chambers.

god forbid we get another Timothy McVeigh or Unabomber or group of them...thats my fear from all of this.

I would argue social media already does this and is a HUGE reason we are currently in this situation to begin with

Agree.

This is social media absolutely playing both ends against the middle.

Social media gives a loon like Trump the platform to spout his lies that then are amplified and echoed in the self-selecting chambers people fall into in social media. People hear lies bouncing around in the chamber so much they think they're true because they're inundated with the same lie over and over.

Then social media inflames the very incitees their platforms fostered when things turn violent and they feel like they can't in good conscience allow their platform to be the vehicle for more lies and inciting violence. If they do nothing, they potentially foster more violence; if they shut Trump down they're accused of censoring or silencing the right.

Social media hurts much more than it helps.

Having tech companies with this much power is a concern for me but not sure how to fix it. They can literally decide elections at this point. My daughter seems to be getting some of her opinions on things from social media but she needs to learn this is filtered material. I do not like government telling companies how to run things but something has to be done IMO.

It's not a partisan statement because I don't give a damn about political parties. I've said a million time on here the two party system is a huge problem and that I'd be perfectly content to see the two-party system go away completely. I don't give a **** about the Republican or Democratic parties and I'll despise any politician from either party that acquits themselves as poorly as Trump has and continues to do while representing our country on the world stage.

Use whatever word you want that describes someone that's petulant, narcissistic, vindictive, and childish, if loon distracts you.

It's precisely those traits that spur Trump to communicate in such an unprecedented and dangerous way on social media.

For the sake of brevity I used loon. If he communicated like a professional on social media, we're not having this conversation.

It's been out of control but now it's full on authoritarianism since last week. It's like that event gave the powers that be the green light to crush any opposition once and for all. Trump's accounts are gone.. so they can take away the POTUS social media. The walkaway movement was banned from social media as well. Conservatives and people on the right are getting censored and banned. Parler taken down completely due to Amazon servers, and google and apple taking the app down.

The top selling book right now on Amazon is "1984". I suppose people are reading up on it now to get a better idea of WHAT WE ARE ACTUALLY EXPERIENCING.

Impeachment is going to happen AGAIN in congress this week. What will happen to his family, supporters, and others who worked in the administration after he's gone? Will they start going after people? Blacklisting? Round up? Where is this going?

So the incoming president is basically a vegetable who has nothing to say about this but just gives little speeches his handlers prepare for him. He probably doesn't know much of what's going on nor does he care. If he was still of sound mind he MIGHT be able to look at this moment to actually try to heal and come together. But again... he's a vegetable and as you can see the leadership in DC is running around doing what they want while Biden gets his morning oatmeal.

100% agree w/your SM concern. Trump should be the poster child for this, because he decided to use the platform for his own benefit, and it both exacerbated the right-echo chamber issue, and fully awakened the left-echo chamber "team".

BTW, one other issue I think SM contributes to in this partisan divide --- we may have at one point believed people we followed in media, entertainment, sports, etc leaned in one direction, but with SM, we now 100% know where they lean. Filters are removed, people, for the most part, self-disclose that. And I think that absolutely influences what we hear when they report "news" that makes our perspectives more negative.

So now that we know Mark Armstrong, for example, is a way-left leaning Canuck who happens to also be a witty sports fan, our viewership of what he says otherwise, can be influenced by knowing what he is. This just begets that spin cycle of every single thing being either given as, or viewed, in a biased world.

This sums up CNN's integrity to a "T." In order to sensationalize and make Loony Ted Lieu into a hero they reported that "as the Capital was being stormed Congressman Ted Lieu grabbed a crow bar as he was exiting his office." Now not sure about many congressman's offices but I know prior to the pandemic my office at corporate was void of random crow bars laying around where I could easily grab one as I walked out the office. Upon further investigating they found out he grabbed a "Pro Bar." An organic energy bar. Glad he was calm enough to remember to eat during such perilous times! The left and their media arms are a total damn joke.

I think this whole thing is going to be a big surprise as to how the riots, at the Capitol, started and ended. I'm still predicting the following:

  • Antifa
  • White Supremacist anti-Trump groups
  • White Supremacist pro-Trump groups

After the three groups organized the riots, some MAGA people went in and protested.

Even if a populist movement continues on the right, a line has to be drawn between white nationalism and populism. White nationalists have to be roundly rejected by the right.

Trump was all too eager to wink at white nationalists and add them as a component of his base.

Hawley is probably the most ambitious populist in Congress right now and he doesn't seem to share Trump's favor for broadening his base indiscriminately, which is at least a small victory for more sensitive populism.

But you don't see the problem with your party swinging toward communism? They are already embracing socialism and are going to enact numerous socialist policies in the first 100 days if Manchin allows it. There are idiots on the right for sure. But the left constantly calls anyone and anything related to the GOP "White Nationalists." Let me riddle you this.... if that was the case, which it's not, what do you call all of the people of color who support the GOP, the conservative movement? Are you implying that they are "White Nationalists?" If you answer "no" then please explain why? I want you, as a leftist, to defend your post and your opinion. I will be more than glad to defend mine. I'll sit back and wait for your response to those questions as will many others.

I don't know of one person that is ok with White Nationalism. Now, America First Nationalism, that's a different story. I'm all for that! So, what does that mean? It certainly doesn't mean we close off trade. Actually, it's the complete opposite. Our trade agreements have left a lot to be desired for America. Yes, we get cheap goods; however, were we getting proper exports? Not at all!

America First Nationalism includes countries that have signed up for alliances to be held accountable to their part. We have not been doing that!

It also means that we are a sovereign country and we should NOT get into any international laws that would take precedence over our US Constitution. Paris climate accord.

BTW, how many times did Trump need to disavow white supremacy for people to realize he disavowed white supremacy?

Now, I will make a request to call out the Biden admin for creating racial policies! He is saying that we need to build back the economy and sites minority groups as his priority. That is one of the most racist thing I've ever heard. That's right, just as racist as white and black water fountains of the 60's!!!!

That creates a divide as much as anything Trump haters say he made!!!

Respectfully Cary, you 'not knowing of one person that is ok with White Nationalism' doesn't mean much because that's a tiny sample size relative to Trump's voter base.

What proportion of the 75 million people that voted for Trump do you know?

Trump didn't reject white nationalism strongly or consistently. His messages were consistently mixed. He was often even supportive of the anti-government and Christian nationalist/"Patriot Church" factions that aren't explicit white supremacists but for whom clearly racial animus motivates much of their politics.

Civ, first time someone called me Cary in a long time...

Actually, I agree with the sample size. The people I listen to and/or read disavows any racist people and/or comments. So, I would say that With Nationalism is probably a sector of America First movement; however, not a defining one in any way at all.

Something the left pushes. It's a lie is what it is. But it's a very dangerous lie.

The left and the media have concocted this story where Trump has turned the GOP into one giant white supremacy party. So if you voted for him you're a racist or a white supremacist. It's how they justified any violence against Trump supporters or people that worked in Washington that worked with Trump. The defund police movement was a big part of this and anyone for law enforcement was also a white supremacist. According to the left it's our greatest domestic threat right now and domestic terrorism is a big problem. Our intelligence community is being weaponized and will begin using their resources to hunt people down that they suspect of this (they're corrupt and work for the left by the way). This will be used to justify a lot of scary things going forward. Probably not unlike how Stalin or Hitler justified using their law enforcement to go after "terrorists" in their countries at the time. Very subtle right now but you can see the snowball building.
