Biden official accuses Trump administration of 'sabotage,' following a string of controversial foreign policy decisions in the final days of the presidency

The Biden official said: "We will manage this but it does start, at some point, to feel like sabotage. Not only do they know we don't want to implement some of these approaches; they don't even want to implement them."

The transition official then implied that the timing of these decisions was suspicious. "Which is why they're doing them now, rather than at any other point in the previous four years," they told PBS.

The Trump Administration Was Just Kidding When It Said It Had Tons More Vaccine Doses to Ship Out (It Has Zero)

.......................................................

According to the Washington Post, when Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said Tuesday that the government would begin shipping vaccine doses from a stockpile, state and local health officials interpreted that to mean they would get additional doses of the vaccine that the government had been holding back.

"Because we now have a consistent pace of production, we can now ship all of the doses that had been held in physical reserve," Azar said at a briefing on Tuesday. He also said that in the future, no doses would be kept in a stockpile and weekly shipments would contain doses to be used for first and second shots.

This led health officials to plan on expanding the pool of people who can receive the vaccine. But the vaccine doses in reserve were only booster shots for people who had already received the first of two shots needed to be vaccinated against Covid, senior administration officials told the New York times. They were not, as states expected, for new first doses of the vaccine.

"[Thursday] night, I received disturbing news, confirmed to me directly by General Perna of Operation Warp Speed: States will not be receiving increased shipments of vaccines from the national stockpile next week, because there is no federal reserve of doses," Oregon Governor Kate Brown said on Twitter.

Sasse, in fiery op-ed, says QAnon is destroying GOP

In a fiery op-ed for The Atlantic published on Saturday, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) said that the QAnon conspiracy theory is "destroying" the GOP and urged his fellow Republicans to reject it.

Sasse's op-ed comes less than two weeks after a violent mob of President Trump's supporters breached the U.S. Capitol that left five people including a Capitol Hill Police officer dead. The rioters stormed the Capitol with the intention of stopping Congress's count of the Electoral College vote that broke for President-elect Joe Biden, claiming that the election was fraudulent.

Many of the members photographed during the riots could be seen with references to "Q" or "QAnon" on their clothing, including a man wearing a horned helmet and face paint colloquially known as the "QAnon Shaman."
Believers of the theory allege, without evidence that President Trump is working to "expose the U.S. government's capture by a global network of cannibalistic pedophiles." Several newly elected lawmakers, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) have been associated with the theory, though she later walked back her support due to "misinformation."

In Sasse's editorial, titled "QAnon is Destroying the GOP From Within" the lawmaker states that the riots that took place at the Capitol were not a result of a "few bad apples," but rather a "seed" that Republicans allowed to grow in the party over time, including these theories.

Trump has trashed America's most important alliance. The rift with Europe could take decades to repair

The presidency of Donald Trump has left such a wretched stench in Europe that it's hard to see how, even in four years, Joe Biden could possibly get America's most important alliance back on track.

Some in the GOP parrot far-right talk of a coming civil war

DA's....that would be the end of the world, not a Civil War! It's not 1861 and a north full of immigrates to do the fighting; 90% of the food, 90% of the railroads, 90% of the people, 90% of the guns and a north vs. a south. Fruitcakes!!!!! Your mom, dad, children, wife, husband, kin and friends all on the line with everything you own. Burn it all......I'll move to Mozambique.

War-like imagery has begun spreading in Republican circles after the attack on the U.S. Capitol by a mob of President Donald Trump's supporters, with some elected officials and party leaders rejecting pleas to tone down rhetoric calling for a second civil war.

In northwestern Wisconsin, the chairman of the St. Croix County Republican Party was forced to resign Friday after refusing for a week after the siege to remove an online post urging followers to "prepare for war." The incoming chairwoman of the Michigan GOP and her husband, a state lawmaker, have joined a conservative social media site created after the Capitol riot where the possibility of civil war is a topic.

Prospect of Pardons in Final Days Fuels Market to Buy Access to Trump

The president's allies have collected tens of thousands of dollars and potentially much more from people seeking pardons.

WASHINGTON As President Trump prepares to leave office in days, a lucrative market for pardons is coming to a head, with some of his allies collecting fees from wealthy felons or their associates to push the White House for clemency, according to documents and interviews with more than three dozen lobbyists and lawyers.

The brisk market for pardons reflects the access peddling that has defined Mr. trump's presidency as well as his unorthodox approach to exercising unchecked presidential clemency powers. Pardons and commutations are intended to show mercy to deserving recipients, but Mr. Trump has used many of them to reward personal or political allies.

..........................................................

The craven corruption of Trump's pardons: Separate justice system for friends and allies

The pardon power is traditionally viewed as an instrument of mercy and justice, a way to right wrongs that the legal system has not otherwise corrected. It is now abundantly clear that, for President Donald Trump, the pardon power is just another avenue for corruption.

Trump weighing a pardon for Steve Bannon

President Donald Trump is considering granting a pardon to Steve Bannon, his former White House chief strategist and top campaign aide, who was charged with swindling donors to a private crowdsourcing effort to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
..........................................

Can Trump pardon himself? Would the courts reject the move?

As he prepares to end a tumultuous four years as U.S. president facing potential legal jeopardy, Donald Trump has discussed the possibility of pardoning himself, according to a source familiar with the matter. But there are questions about whether a president's broad executive clemency powers under the U.S. Constitution would permit such action.

The Justice Department has previously taken the view that the Constitution does not allow a sitting president to be indicted, but a former president enjoys no such protections.

Trump moves to lift some Covid-19-related travel restrictions, but Biden plans to block the order

President Donald Trump on Monday lifted coronavirus-related travel restrictions for much of Europe, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Brazil, effective on January 26 -- a move that President-elect Joe Biden's administration has promised to block.

Trumps' snub of Bidens historic in its magnitude

On the morning of January 20, Donald Trump and Melania Trump will depart the White House as President and first lady, but they will not invite their incoming counterparts, Joe and Jill Biden, inside before they do.

The dissolving of one of America's most enduring transfer-of-power rituals -- the outgoing president welcoming the incoming president on the steps of the North Portico, and then riding with them to the United States Capitol -- is just one of the snubs the Trumps are perpetrating as they leave Washington.

Rudy Giuliani realized he can't actually be Trump's impeachment lawyer because he's a witness in the case

Rudy Giuliani told ABC News that he would not be able to represent President Donald Trump during Trump's second impeachment trial because he was a witness in the case.

Giuliani appeared with Trump at the January 6 "Save America" rally where Trump is accused of inciting an insurrection and where Giuliani called for "trial by combat."

It was widely expected that Giuliani, who served as lead counsel on the president's various challenges to the 2020 election, would head up Trump's impeachment team

Donald Trump plans to end his presidency at Mar-a-Lago as Biden takes oath

If he sticks to the schedule, President Donald Trump will spend his final minutes in office at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

Trump is expected to be at the Palm Beach club, which he dubbed the "Winter White House," when the clock strikes noon on Wednesday, ending a contentious presidential term that closed with days of seclusion after a riot the U.S. Capitol and will be capped with a final military send-off at Joint Base Andrews.

Barring a schedule change, the White House has invited hundreds of supporters to a pomp-and-circumstance ceremony at the air base, one expected to feature a red carpet and military color guard and perhaps a preview of another Trump presidential run in 2024.

Opinion piece -

Folks, we just survived something really crazy awful: four years of a president without shame, backed by a party without spine, amplified by a network without integrity, each pumping out conspiracy theories without truth, brought directly to our brains by social networks without ethics all heated up by a pandemic without mercy. (loved by supported by Russia and hated by the world in general/what happened to the City Upon a Hill)

It's amazing that our whole system didn't blow, because the country really had become like a giant overheated steam engine. What we saw in the Capitol last week were the bolts and hinges starting to come loose. The departure of Donald J. Trump from the White House and the depletion of his enablers' power in the Senate aren't happening a second too soon.

Nor is Joe Biden's inauguration, but he has his work cut out for him. Because we haven't even begun to fully comprehend how much damage Trump, armed with Twitter and Facebook and leveraging the bully pulpit of the presidency and the cowardice of so many who knew better, has done to our nation's public life, institutions and cognitive immunity.

This was a terrible, terrible experiment.

It's not that Trump never did anything good. It's that it was nowhere near worth the price of leaving our nation more divided, more sick and with more people marinated in conspiracy theories than at any time in modern history. We need to be simultaneously reunited, deprogrammed, refocused and reassured. The whole country needs to go on a weekend retreat to rediscover who we are and the bonds that unite us or at least once did.

No jets that I saw; 21 gun salute, red carpet walk & the Village People recording. Family, ~100 or so supporters and Mark Meadows (+military and SS).

He promised a come back in some form; never mentioned Biden by name

Trump never conceded, continued to lie about the election results (leading to violence), took no part in the transition, and couldn't even address his opponent by name. Let's call it like it is, Trump is a sore loser and a small human being. If any one of us behaved like this we'd have ridden the pine all through youth sports. I don't care about your politics, this is just no way for a grown person to act. Certainly not someone in a position of power and likely to influence the behavior of others. It's a shame he was raised this way, and a relief that he's no longer in office.
