Rough last 3 innings. We're making this very hard on ourselves. Are we going to have anyone to pitch in Game 3 beside Hemrich?
Doesn't matter who they subbed in you need to win the game and now here we are bases loaded again with no outs

Every leverage arm we've been using except Garino. Nance Ragusa, Manuel should be more than enough behind LH
Huge double play. I was hoping for a traditional double play and at least concede only one run. Huge to get it like that

Bare minimum had to get one win this weekend. Huge it was today. Now have a chance to take the series
I did not watch the second game. Glad they got out with a win and it could have been a sweep yesterday. Very important to get the game today or whenever game 3 is played.
Apparently CC pitched very well and we needed a great start out of him. Hopefully Hemric and Nance can pull us through in game 3.

After 7 hours and 46 minutes of game time, 18 innings, and 746 pitches, NC State and Miami split the doubleheader Friday night, with Miami winning the first game 12-9 and NC State evening the series with a 13-6 victory in game two at Doak Field.
The Wolfpack (29-17, 11-12) got the win behind Cooper Consiglio (3-3), who tossed six innings of three-run ball, allowing three hits and three walks with a career-best nine strikeouts.
Freshman Christian Serrano had a big day in both games, collecting three hits and scoring twice in game one, then hitting his first collegiate home run in game two, adding three RBIs and three runs scored.
The Pack led 11-0 heading into the seventh inning, but Miami scored six to avoid the run-rule. The teams combined for 18 walks in the second game, as the Pack kept the Hurricanes at arm's length despite some trouble in the later innings.
Tristan Potts had his longest outing of the season, going two innings without allowing a base runner and recording two strikeouts. Potts came on in the top of the eighth with the bases loaded and no outs and proceeded to get a double play and a strikeout to stop the Hurricanes' comeback attempt.
Rett Johnson extended his hitting streak to 20 straight games, and Ty Head had a three-RBI night with two hits and a run scored. Luke Nixon went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, including two doubles, which now puts his season total at 14, leading the team.
The Wolfpack used a seven-run fifth inning to break the game open. The Pack scored its seven runs in the frame on only three hits. Head started the inning with a bunt single and reached third on a Sherman Johnson double. Brayden Fraasman hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.
A hit by pitch and a walk loaded the bases. Drew Lanphere didn't see a strike and walked on four pitches to add another run. A Miami error off the bat of Rett Johnson brought home another, followed by another walk, this time by Nixon. Head, in his second appearance of the inning, recorded his second hit, scoring two and making it 11-0.
Two wild pitches in the bottom of the seventh scored Johnson and Nixon, once again making it 13-6, where it would finish.

Heath Andrews went 4.2 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits with five walks and no strikeouts. All six runs came in the first two frames.
(3-3) took the loss after allowing a season-high six runs on seven hits, with one walk and six strikeouts. Garino gave up a bases-loaded walk, then a grand slam, to give Miami a lead they would not relinquish.
The eight Wolfpack runs in the fourth inning came from five hits, three walks, and two hit-by-pitches. All five of the Wolfpack hits were singles.
The series finale is set for tomorrow, Saturday, May 2nd, at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.

Glad we got the win last night. Hope we can pull out game 3 and stay on the right side of the bubble. The team is still fighting despite the tough injuries we have had and it has been great to see some of the youngsters like Serrano and others step up these last couple of weeks.
A couple of stats that are crazy to me:
-There are over 250 teams with stronger non-conf. schedules than us. I hope this doesn't come back to bite us come NCAA tourney selection time.I get that the ACC is a great league and a big RPI booster but I still don't understand why some of those non-conf. scheduling decisions were made.
-I know there are better stats for capturing overall offensive production, but rIght now some of the in conference batting averages for our regular starters are surprisingly bad. The season is almost over so this isn't one bad weekend or something. Fraasman is at .179, Bargo is at .175, and Mchugh is at .211. Mchugh in particular surprises me, and Bargo is the DH! I can't think of any DH I have ever seen on any team with numbers as low across the board as Bargo. People complained about Heavner last year and whether his legit good defense made up for his bad hitting (worst on the team), but Bargo's in conference numbers are worse than Heavners were and he plays DH.
-The numbers for these 3 starters for in-conference slugging percentage and on base percentage are just as rough. It is tough to win ball games without lights out pitching (which we no longer have thanks to injuries) when 1/3 of your lineup hits that poorly.
-Novy and Peifer are also hitting well below .200 in conference, though on much smaller sample sizes. Wiggins has not been great either but has better in-conference numbers than these other guys.
-So what is the answer to fix it? I don't know, but when we look back on this season and why it went sideways (besides the obvious with the injuries) I think a big part of the answer is in these numbers. For what its worth despite the struggles I like this team a lot. They seem to have great chemistry, it is obvious they like each other, and they always play hard. Avent and Doeren are both excellent at building culture and have teams that consistently represent the university well. I hope this group can catch lightning in a bottle down the stretch somehow and make a run!

I didn't see the last three innings of the second game, but to that point he hadn't been behind the plate. And I know he's not a great catcher, I'm just surprised he'd leave a starting job to DH in a draft year.
