In which game thread was everyone ****ting on Rett? Let's bring that one back to surface

Literally nobody was ****ting on Rett Johnson. Everyone was asking why Wiggins isn't in the lineup. Wiggins, who btw has never been bad when he gets to play.

Anyone surprised that dumbdumb would say something so moronic on these here message boards?

Must be nice being a kiss ass so you can say whatever you want to.

LOL

I really do feel sorry for you.

Your weird entitlement to say whatever pops into that pea brain of yours about the athletes that represent the university you supposedly love is wild.

I bet you got a burner account on twitter, don't you? L O L

I love that insult. I am going to have to start using that one. "Bet you got a burner account"

That's funny stuff

I wasn't able to comment right after the game but what a big time win. Marohn was awesome tonight. To bounce back after the three run homer and complete six innings was huge and set up Nance to close it out.

Clutch at bats throughout the game. Fighting back to retake the lead after Bailey's go ahead homerun was very impressive.

The ump sucked.

And that net in RF is ridiculous. WTH.

Let's win the series tomorrow!!!

I was skeptical State was ready for this caliber of opponent but they were excellent in all phases tonight. Very nice win

When you can burn Abraham for the series and get a game 1 win that's a great start to your weekend. Go Pack!

Big win for the team. I saw about half the game and I went back and watched Nance's performance. He was dynamic and looks to be rounding into last year's form. He and Marohn both pitched well. Ryan made one big mistake but other than that inning he was very good.

Rett Johnson continues to impress. He reminds me a lot of Tyler McDonough. Not the biggest guys in the world, but fast, able to deliver some good pop when needed, and guys that somehow find a way to get on base.

Can't believe the scorer changed Frasman's hit in the second inning. Ball obviously took a high hop with tons of topspin.

Come back tomorrow and play the same way and see how it lands. Let's take the series tomorrow and if that happens, we have the chance to bring out the brooms. One game at a time!

GO PACK!

great bounce after Bailey's HR - he is a monster in that line up

I think we can score 6+ vs the rest of FSU's staff - we have more depth in our line up than FSU but I expect both teams to score

Pretty big win for a team whose season ended a few weeks ago with the Lafayette loss.

131 RPI points which is good for like 50 spots.

Not quite 50. Looks like around 30. Up to 101 this morning.

Where are you going to put Wiggins? That has always been the problem. Again I think "analytics" have made this crowd think Wiggins some superstar.

4-28 against tournament teams last year. It's a great lefty option off the bench, but the lineup is the lineup right now and they're pretty damn good.

Exactly man. I have said it before. But the thing with analytics is 1. the advanced numbers take a while to stabilize. So if a guy has limited ABs, you can see some wonky numbers.

2. The big ten is a significantly inferior conference. I think your point perfectly displays this.

3. Analytics that work in Pro ball don't translate to the college game 1 for 1.

Also Avent, Hart, and Robinson have had summer, fall and spring to evaluate these guys. I am not trying to bash the guy but read the tea leaves.

I'm fine taking some of the hit here. I really don't see a guy with a career .450 OBP as some crazy analytical stat though and I said from the beginning I didn't care if he didn't hit at all just because he gets on base at such a high clip. I always think outside the box and honestly I was more concerned with Fraasmans bat. I have also said he is blocked because of his defense and we have a good depth problem.

Really I am more shocked by Pfiefer not playing just because how much EA values defense but Sherman has been fine at third and has produced at the plate.

The lineup is fine to me, there will be some regression coming from Rhett (Unless he is just Ichiro) but that is to be expected, hopefully no one jumps ship when he has a couple of down games.

Sorry if this has been brought up, but it's lame as hell that none of these games are being broadcasted on ACCN.

Analytics are fine and extremely useful for many things. They are not, and should never be, the be all end all when it comes to coaching decisions. Otherwise, every coach in the country could just be replaced with AI or some 20 year old college nerd. It's one tool in a tool box coaches have available to make their decisions. As long as players are human, it will always be about more than numbers on a page.

Great environment last night. Felt like a regional. Great crowd, hostile to a degree.

Marohn was honestly phenomenal. Doesn't give up the first run without the wild pitch/passed ball to get runner to 3rd but that's what happens with walks - just baseball. He got Bailey twice with fastball and went back to the well and Bailey got him - likely a 1st round bat and it's going to happen - but minus one pitch he was nearly perfect. Hell of a start. And Anderson looked the best he has all season - attacked the zone - touched 96 - and stoic when the lights shined the brightest.

Team just kept answering. Luke had two knocks but again showcased the speed that doesn't guarantee every sac bunt is an out - can handle the bat. Bargo with some big swings - great to see that - and Rett just continuing to impress. Agree you'd expect some regression but with guys with his kind of speed that don't punch out - wreaks havoc on teams. I thought arguably the biggest at bat of the night, not the biggest swing, but the biggest at bat was Ty Head in the 6th. He is ahead 3-0 in count - thought he got ball 4 and I did too, tossed the bat - then grinded that at bat out, fouled off a 2 strike pitch, and ended it with a hit cutting game to 4-3 and keeping the line moving. Gritty at bat in a tense moment right after we'd been kicked in the teeth.

Perfectly said. That's why certain guys get undervalued and certain guys get overvalued.

Again this is college baseball. Defenses arent as good pitching isn't as good. Competition isn't the same across the board. Which is why analytics should always be taken with a grain of salt on this level.

In my view analytics should always be taken with a grain of salt on any level. As Wilmwolf say, the game is played by humans. Analytics might give you trends, but they don't know how the human is feeling that day. Is his curve ball breaking more than it usually does. Does his fastball have more jump. Is the batter seeing the ball better and going with the pitch. It's baseball and weird things will happen. Pitchers make mistakes, fielders make mistakes, and batters make mistakes. It's not a computer simulation but just a game.

Agree with everything what a great environment last night to play in - loud and rowdy and we get to walk out with a W.
Can't expect we'll play in anything like that over remainder of ACC road play.
