PG left us out, and while Perfect Game does a great job, I feel like D1 has established themselves as the authority.

Our bats are unproven - but we have a lot of options. The job of the staff is to find the right recipe - and then hope our staff continues to grow and pitches like we expect them to.

If that happens, we should have a great shot to host a regional again in Raleigh.

If the pitching can carry us early we have a shot, but 13 seems too high for us early in the season as we have alot to work out.. Hope we are playing to this level by the end of the season when the pieces come together though!

I don't think there's so much to workout that a preseason ranking of 13 isn't warranted. We return a lot of great pieces and had a nice run in the portal. Lost some good offensive pieces, but I'm never worried about that

Most of the teams in this ranking are doing the same but very few have the bullpen and weekend rotation that State has. A lot of firepower was lost from super regional teams across the board

I haven't followed baseball portal stuff at all if it wasn't NCSU related... Did UVA bring in a bunch? I know they were good last year but thought they lost a ton of their hitters?

Looks like they had two guys they expected to lose go undrafted and come back. How nice that must be....

UVA brings back a TON of dudes from last year's squad, I think it's something like 6 of the main dudes, guys like Godbout, Ford and Didawick who can play.

IIRC, they brought in a couple arms from like D2 and D3 which O'Connor has had success with before and they return pretty much all their big arms as well. They'll be really good. Very well coached too.

*Congrats to the 10 win 2021 Wolfpack football team!

Yea you wont have to worry about UVA being coached.

Looking at those rankings just made me randomly think what the hell has happened to Louisville? Most must think they will be down again this year.

Happened to State also in a way with Fritton and Ty Head.

The team that intrigues me the most is FSU. Could be elite at the front end of the rotation with Arnold and Leiter (if he gets back healthy), but that bullpen was a disaster last year. Return some tertiary pieces but lost the bangers. Not dissimilar to State with the difference being the bullpen.

Added Gary Sheffield's kid who stands in there exactly like his dad. Might compete for some time at 3rd.

Yea ECU lost a ton of that team.

Agreed. State did a really nice job holding on to that pitching rotation for this season. Hitting will come around. We may not have the power bats that we're used to seeing but should be able to put up enough runs to complement the arms we have.

I haven't really looked into Louisville much but I wonder if the internal issues that McDonnell has had with the admin might be affecting them in some way. His name has been attached to just about every big opening the last couple years so sounds like he's looking to leave and/or get more money. Strange fall off tho.

The staff really did. If they can cobble together some power (which they do most years) I think we are going to be really good. I think you see Nixon really take a step and then Sosa will have give some power and hopefully take a step as well. If that happens and you get a guy like Hogue healthy and back I like what the lineup could be. Having Jaros or Ossenfort hit like their profiles say they might would be huge. Even if it's not a super high average like AMac or Pennington last year if the power is there it turns the lineup into something completely different when paired with this rotation. The power arms we have along with the pitchability of guys like Marohn, Consiglio, and hopefully a healthy Willadsen is really exciting. Especially if Wimbush and and Andrews are ready to roll like it looks. And then add in Fritton hopefully getting it figured out and Van Dam back healthy.... Lot of options and a lot to be excited about. I'm sure some will not "hit" compared to what we hope but with so many legit options we will figure it out. Should be a fun season.

The middle of the field is critical for good baseball teams -

When you look up the middle - the mound we obviously feel good about - Sosa and Lanphere we feel good about - Nixon and Decrisico we feel good about - Head and Jet are an unknown but you have two options - one super highly recruited

Then you go to the corners with McCugh and Ossenfort af 1B and Heavner and Jaros at 3B - you got to feel like 2 of those guys click

In the corner OF spots you have Hogue, Lyons, Fraasman, and Bechtel.

Not only do I think we have options and depth - I think the potential is there to be pretty dang good.

And what freshman makes the leap out of fall and into the spring and comes on like Dudan last year?

Too early to tell.

A lot of unknowns - but a lot of potential. And you have to bet on Hart's guys hitting. They always do. And hope the pitching is what we think it is.

One month from the most wonderful time of the year. Obviously, a frustrating athletics year in Raleigh so far so really looking forward to the season getting started. Save us Avent & Co.
