No. 10 seed NC State will host South Carolina, James Madison, and Bryant in the 2024 NCAA Baseball Championship Tournament.
The Wolfpack’s regional will be paired against the Athens Regional which features No. 7 Georgia, UNC Wilmington, Georgia Tech, and Army.
The Gamecocks (36-23, 13-17 SEC) head to Raleigh after hosting the Wolfpack in the 2023 Columbia Regional. South Carolina finished 2024 in fifth place in the Southeastern Conference’s East division behind Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, and Vanderbilt. Despite picking up three wins in Hoover, Ala., the Cocks fell out of conference title contention after a pair of losses to eventual runner-up LSU.
The Dukes (34-23, 17-13 Sun Belt) finished the regular season fourth in the Sun Belt standings. However, JMU would get eliminated by Georgia Southern in the conference tournament in the semifinal round. This marks the first time since 2020 that the Dukes will play in Raleigh.
The Bulldogs (36-19, 17-7, American East) venture to Doak Field as champions of the American East conference. After concluding the regular season three games ahead of second-place UMBC, Bryant bested UMass Lowell in the conference tournament opener before a pair of wins against the Retrievers, the second of which by a margin of 15-10, to clinch the American East’s automatic bid.
The 2024 NCAA Tournament begins on Friday, May 31. First pitch between the Gamecocks and the Dukes is slated for 2 p.m. with the Wolfpack’s game versus the Bulldogs scheduled for 7 p.m.

Game 1 starter? Dependent on South Carolina vs. JMU?
Has anyone watched the other three teams play this season?
part of me says not to get cute and stick to what got you there but then another part of me says we should get cute and go Marohn Friday against Bryant and have Sam go Saturday then we'll have Logan and Dom ready for whatever is needed after that.Travlnwolf said:

I'd go Marohn game one like we did against VT in Charlotte.CLTWolf said:part of me says not to get cute and stick to what got you there but then another part of me says we should get cute and go Marohn Friday against Bryant and have Sam go Saturday then we'll have Logan and Dom ready for whatever is needed after that.Travlnwolf said:

I'm sure we'll go Sam. ha
Other thing is, do you want Sam throwing Saturday night against an SEC team? Dude just got shelled in a must-win game on Thursday night. Where's his head at? If you throw him Friday against Bryant and get a W, do you now have him in a good mental spot for game 1 of the supers?matracey said:
Only person I would be surprised to see throw Friday night is Dom.
Sam would make sense as you just stick with your normal weekend rotation as much as you can.
Whitaker/Marohn make sense because both should be able to handle Bryant no problem and then you have your best pitchers available the rest of the weekend.
Agree wholeheartedly. I love what Sam did for us in 2021 and how hard he has worked to get back on the mound. Having said that, he has really struggled at times and has given up a bunch of homers. He is not the pitcher he was because of the injuries. If he can give us a good outing against Bryant and limit the bullpen action, then that might be the best case scenario.SportManagementEngineer said:Other thing is, do you want Sam throwing Saturday night against an SEC team? He gave 4 great innings. If he's "done" early in the 5th, you're setting your bullpen up to log a ton of innings in game 1.Glasswolf said:SportManagementEngineer said:Other thing is, do you want Sam throwing Saturday night against an SEC team? Sam got shelled because avent left him in 2 batters too long. That wasn't on Sam. He was done. Avent said afterward that he trusted Sam but after that second walk he should have been pulled

I believe Sam had a no hitter through 4 and looked as good as he has in about any game of that caliber all season if I'm not mistaken. Just throwing that out there

No worse than a one hitter but it was obvious the batters were waiting him to throw a strike and after 2 walks you have to make the move.
It's the post season. The hooks should be quicker

There weren't 2 walks. It was a pop fly out that somehow left the park. 2 flair singles on 3 pitches, then a walk on a 3-2 battled count. It literally took 4 mins to happen. Impossible to have someone ready to come in the game there.

I'd let Sam go throw 120 pitches and throw Fritton in winners Saturday night.

You are throwing Sam against Bryant?? I personally am not using either of my top 2 guys against Bryant. We have to be able to get that win with either Whitaker or Marohn on the mound. I personally go Whitaker. Would certainly want him to get deep and preserve the pen.

Whatever. I played for Esposito. You always have someone up throwing. I love Avent but he missed this one. He said it himself. He trusted Sam which is fine. But you have to have someone throwing
James even agreed there should have been a quicker hook

I'm no either.

Yes, if Sam can give you 8 innings then you are in a great spot to win the regional. I mean I guess that could be Whitaker too, but I'm not just writing off Bryant. Get in the winners bracket.
I think Fritton has the best stuff on the staff so I'd want to throw him against USC.
