The NC State baseball team recorded two victories over Walters State in its 14-inning fall exhibition at Doak Field at Dail Park on Wednesday night. NC State notched a 13-4 win in game one before
Andrew Shaffner's walk-off single clinched a 7-6 victory in game two.

Luke Nixon scored the first run of the afternoon on a throwing error from the catcher to give the Wolfpack a 1-0 lead in the first. NC State extended its lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning behind Alec Makarewicz's two-out, two-RBI single and
Jacob Cozart's RBI double.

Win Scott and Jacob Dudan combined for four hitless innings to keep the Senators off the board in the first four frames. Walters State's Deniel Ortiz tied the score at 4-4 in the top of the fifth with a grand slam to right field.
The Wolfpack answered Ortiz's slam in the bottom of the sixth, plating seven runs to take an 11-4 lead. Josh Hogue opened the sixth with a walk before Garrett Pennington crushed a two-run homer to push the Pack in front 6-4. Nixon added a two-RBI double later in the seven-run frame for the Wolfpack.
After
Logan Whitaker faced the minimum in the top of the seventh, NC State batted in the bottom of the seventh and scored its final two runs of the contest. Makarewicz and
Noah Soles each recorded an RBI apiece to conclude game one.
The NC State pitching staff of Highfill, Scott, Dudan, Cooper Consiglio and Whitaker struck out a combined 11 Walters State batters in the win.
Game Two | NC State 7, Walters State 6 (Seven Innings)Walters State scored a single run in the first, second and fifth frames to build an early 3-0 lead in game two.
Matt Heavner's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning trimmed the Pack's deficit to 3-2. Peyton Young drew a one-out walk before Heavner launched his home run beyond the wall in left field to make it a one-run game. Robert Nedry's bases-loaded walk tied the score at 3-3 before a balk allowed the go-ahead run to score a batter later.
Andrew Shaffner's infield RBI single extended the Pack's lead to 5-3 before
Chase Nixon pushed across the sixth run of the fifth inning with an RBI groundout.
Deniel Ortiz homered for the second straight game with a game-tying, three-run homer to center field in the top of the sixth.
After Jaxon Lucas pitched a scoreless top of the seventh, Shaffner delivered a walk-off single to left-center to lift the Wolfpack to a 7-6 victory. Nedry kept the inning alive with a two-out base hit before Shaffner's line drive clinched the game for NC State.
