Pitching Lab that's news to me

Look down at the bottom of the page. There's a listing of what's coming.
Has it ever been said what is being done first? Facility or stadium improvements?

My recollection of the timeline was that player amenities is next up in phase two, and fan experience is phase three, with the extent of phase three being based on how much money they received.

There seem to be a lot of folks that have the mindset that the success we've had has been in spite of Avent, and that he's holding us back from breaking through. But when you look at the disadvantages we've had facilities wise, in my mind the success has been because of him and his staffs, not in spite of it.
I mean, the guy we had before Avent was .694 overall and 32 games over .500 in the ACC after 9 years then went on to win a couple CWS' at his next stop. Avent, over a much longer career, is at .627 overall and is 24 games over .500 in the ACC. Our only other coach since the 60s is Sammy Esposito who I cant find the ACC record for but was .669 overall

I'd guess we could hire a worse coach than Avent because sometimes you just **** up and hire James Johnson but most likely we'll get another guy who wins 60-70% of his games and treads slightly above water in the league but just like you sometimes have bad luck and hire a worse coach than your norm you can also have good luck and hire a better coach

Esposito's teams were very good at times. Mike Caldwell and Tim Stoddard anchored two of the better ones. Esposito's team's style were very different than Avent's style. More defense and pitching and less power bats. Bunting often and stealing bases much more often.

The 1968 team made it Omaha. They lost to eventual champion USC in the semifinals.

Best I can calculate 175-117, rounds to 60% in the ACC. I think that counts games in the ACC tournament. Overall, the 513 wins ranks him second all-time. By the way, Sam's teams won the 1973, 1974 and 1975 ACC tournaments. They went on the road to Columbia and Starkville twice losing out before Omaha.

1986 team made the NCAA's but lost two straight.

Interesting fact, NC State has not had a losing season in baseball since 1966.

Comparing coaches ACC records from 60 years ago is a really pointless exercise. Equally as pointless as the comparison to a women's basketball assistant coach earlier. The entire point of this thread was comparing Avent to his peers in the modern ACC.

I think all schools are going to look at their coaches in all sports the next few years. The transfer portal has changed everyone's job in college athletics and the jobs requite more energy and strategic evaluation than ever before.

I love Avett and think he will do well in the transfer era.

It is certainly true. It used to be that talent was more important in sport and it alone could get you to the top. Now it's a different time - a time of statistics and hard work

@CanesBaseball head coach Gino DiMare has stepped down as the head man for Miami. Some big news in Division I Baseball today, which opens up one of the more prestigious jobs in college baseball.

Gino DiMare announced Thursday that he is stepping down as the head coach of the University of Miami baseball program.

DiMare served as the Hurricanes' head coach for the past five seasons, compiling a record of 168-86 and advancing to the NCAA Tournament in all four years the tournament was held.

"After evaluating this past season and talking extensively with my family, I have decided it is in my best interests and the best interests of the program to step away as head coach," DiMare said. "I would like to thank President Frenk and Dan Radakovich for their support, and Blake James for giving me the opportunity to become the head coach at Miami. I want to thank my coaches and staff for all their hard work, and especially the players the relationships I have built with them are something I will cherish forever."

DiMare's 24 years as a member of the Miami baseball staff included 21 postseason appearances, 10 College World Series appearances and two national championships. The Hurricanes won 42 games this past season their most since 2016 and hosted an NCAA regional in Coral Gables for the second straight year. Twelve Hurricanes were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft during DiMare's tenure as head coach and 15 of his student-athletes earned ACC All-Academic honors.

A native of Miami, DiMare was a standout outfielder for the Canes under Ron Fraser from 1989-92. He returned to UM in 1997 as a volunteer coach. He later served as assistant head coach and associate head coach before succeeding Jim Morris as the ninth head baseball coach in Miami history in 2019.
