NC State baseball faced off against its Tobacco Road rival Duke in a pair of seven-inning contests on Thursday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, winning the opening matchup 5-0 before rallying late to post a 3-3 tie in game two.
Twenty-five student-athletes, including 10 pitchers, made appearances between the Pack's pair of seven-inning contests.
Game One | NC State 5, Duke 0Carter Trice got the Wolfpack offense going early in game one, blasting a solo home run to lead off the second inning. Trice's solo shot carried well beyond the Blue Monster in left field for the first of NC State's three home runs in game one.
NC State plated three more runs in the third frame, opening the inning with another leadoff home run from
Payton Green.
LuJames Groover III then blasted the Pack's first multi-run homer of the night to extend NC State's lead to 4-0, driving home Eli Serrano from second base.
The Pack capped off its scoring in game one when Green delivered a two-out RBI single, stretching its advantage to 5-0.
Oregon transfer Rio Britton started on the mound for NC State, tossing two hitless innings for the Pack.
Jacob Halford relieved Britton in the third and fourth innings, tossing two more scoreless frames before Dom Fritton and
Justin Lawson completed the shutout for the Wolfpack pitching staff.

Duke struck first in the second leg of the doubleheader, plating one run in the second frame to give the Blue Devils an early 1-0 edge. Duke added another run in the fourth inning on a passed ball to increase its lead to 2-0.
Josh Solomon capped off the Blue Devils' scoring in the sixth, smacking Duke's sole home run of the evening on a solo shot.
NC State's offense opened its seventh-inning rally when newcomer Matt Heavner drew a leadoff hit-by-pitch. Texas A&M transfer Kalae Harrison got the Wolfpack on the board with an RBI double, trimming the deficit to 3-1. Michael Gupton then drew a walk on a 3-2 count, advancing 90 feet along with Harrison to both move into scoring position.
With a pair of runners in scoring position, Isaiah Barkett ripped a two-RBI triple to right field, emptying the bases to tie the game at 3-3. Harris then shut down the Blue Devils in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 3-3 t
