NC State shortstop Josh Hood has been drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the sixth round, No. 186 overall, in the 2022 MLB Draft.

After spending three years at Penn, Hood transferred to Raleigh and started all 57 games for the Wolfpack in the 2022 season, one of only three players on the team to do so. The Vineland, N.J. native finished second on the team in runs batted in with 52 while also notching 62 total hits, clobbering 13 home runs, scoring 42 runs, and accumulating 115 total bases.

Entering the 2022 Draft ranked No. 224 by MLB.com, Hood becomes the fourth State shortstop drafted in the last six years, joining Joe Dunand (2017, 2nd Round, MIA), Will Wilson (2019, 1st Round, LAA) and Jose Torres (2021, 3rd Round, CIN). Hood had previously been drafted in the 20th round in the 2021 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox. Should he choose to return to the Pack, the All-ACC Academic Team honoree will have one year of collegiate eligibility remaining.
