Old Dominion's Carter Trice Transfers to NC State

Former Old Dominion infielder Carter Trice will transfer to NC State. The Mechanicsville, Va. native announced his decision Thursday afternoon on his Instagram.

Earning Second-Team All-Conference USA honors, Trice finished the 2022 season third on the Monarchs in home runs with 17 while batting .288 with an OPS of 1.001. He also compiled 54 runs, 49 RBI, 13 doubles, one triple, and 18 stolen bases on 22 attempts. He’ll join the Wolfpack as a junior with two years of eligibility remaining.

Significantly better numbers than Pilolli and Groover from the same conference. And they got better after coming to State

This type of transfer is going to be our bread and butter. A lot of All ACC talent looking for a chance to step up a level.

If we just make a Conference USA all star team then we will be pretty good.

With one transfer, we have already recouped about 60-65% of Tommy White's output. We get someone who is faster and probably a better fielder. Get another transfer like this and we should be fine.

His 18 stolen bases this season is something we were missing too. Kid can definitely be a star.

athletically we should take a huge step forward next year. Green, Trice, Gupton*, Soles, Marcy, Dom P* all have the tools to steal 10+ bases if healthy/given the opportunity.

YUGE.

Adding Trice today is such a huge bounce-back emotionally. About like answering a top of the first rally with one of our own in the bottom.

Really good pop, wheels, and defense.

Easy to see how we could we'll be much better next year, especially if we add another impact transfer. Exciting!!

I was thinking about thus earlier, it's not really just White. You have to replace White, Brown, Hood and Jarrett. That's probably roughly 60 HRs not including everything else? You add Carter's 15-20 and I would hope between Cozart, Soles, Pilolli, Groover, Green another 15-20 from their totals. Plus another transfer or freshman.

I know that's just a single category of HR but I haven't dug into everything else but same concept.

Improving just a little on defense will go a very long ways as well.

I love the long ball but I think the college game is won by being great defensively and having multiple ways to generate runs. Those Omaha fences seem really far to get one out. We need one more infielder with the same numbers.
