Wolfpack Standout Austin Murr Wins Gold Glove Award
NC State baseball's Austin Murr has been tabbed the top first baseman in Division I baseball, as he was named a Gold Glove Award winner by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings on Wednesday evening.
Murr becomes the second player in Wolfpack history and first infielder since the award began in 2007 to earn the award, as Brett Williams last won it in 2013.
The award is presented annually to the top defensive players in each division of collegiate and high school baseball. The finalists are voted on and selected by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America committee, which is chaired by Tommy Raffo of Arkansas State University.
Murr is one two recipients who are participating in the 2021 College World Series in Omaha.
The junior first baseman has been an essential piece to the Wolfpack's postseason run, as he has started every game in the NCAA tournament at his position and is batting .364 through eight games. On the year, he is slashing .320/.509/.375 in 52 starts.
In his Wolfpack career he has not made an error in 70 games played (69 starts).
NC State will continue World Series action Friday at 2 p.m. ET in Omaha when it plays for a spot in the championship series next week.
