NC State (16-13, 9-12 ACC) dropped its rubber match with No. 7 Notre Dame (18-7, 16-7 ACC), 11-2, on Sunday afternoon at Frank Eck Stadium in South Bend, Ind.

The Irish plated three runs on four hits in the first to take an early lead, as Carter Putz knocked the first run in with a single through the right side and then Brooks Coetzee drove in two more with his double up the right field line.

Tyler McDonough put the Pack on the board in the fifth when he led off with his sixth home run of the season to right field, making the score 3-1 in favor of Notre Dame.

Notre Dame answered in the bottom half of the fifth with a run to regain its three-run lead. Spencer Myers led off the side with a double to left field, and then after a sacrifice bunt moved him to third he scored on Putz’s two-out double to left field.

In the sixth, Coetzee reached on a hit-by-pitch, advanced to second on a balk and then stole third and home to tack on a run. Zack Prajzner then belted a solo shot to left field in the frame to extend Notre Dame’s lead to 6-1.

The Irish added four more runs in the seventh on a Wolfpack error and a Jack Brannigan three-run home run to make the score 10-1.

NC State cut into its deficit in the eighth when Jonny Butler and Vojtech Mensik started the inning with back-to-back outfield singles, and a pair of groundouts then brought in a run.

Niko Kavadas’ leadoff homer to center field in the bottom half of the eighth made it 11-2.
