NC State catcher Patrick Bailey has been drafted No. 13 overall in the 2020 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants.

Bailey averaged .296 at the plate in the shortened season while leading the team with six home runs, 20 runs batted in, and 17 walks. Bailey also scored 20 runs and hit three doubles with a 1.151 OPS.

During his time in Raleigh, Bailey garnered several accolades including All-ACC and All-American Freshman honors in 2018. The next season, he was named to the All-ACC First Team, ABCA All-Region Team, and Collegiate Baseball’s All-American Third Team while spending the summer with the US Collegiate National Team.

The 2020 Preseason All-American selection will join former Wolfpack shortstop Will Wilson in the Giants’ farm system with Wilson getting traded from the Angels in December 2019. Bailey is the fourth first-round pick for NC State in the last seven years, joining Wilson, Carlos Rodon, and Trea Turner.

Every draft in every sport when one of our guys gets picked I always make the mistake of clicking on the responses to the tweets and it's always so awful. I guess half of every fanbase just hates every pick regardless. I'm super stoked for Pat and look forward to following his career.

If him and Wilson both make it up to SF together that would be awesome!

I think it's ignorance of how the mlb draft really works. They don't care about need or anything. They want the best talent they can get at the pick who will be the easiest to sign. People conflate it with the NBA and NFL drafts too much, imo. They're just going off b/c they took that guy from GT a couple years back that was also a catcher. Idiots.

Yeah, so many "but we already have a catcher!" tweets it made my head hurt. Even a guy of Bailey's talent is most likely at least three years away from the big leagues, who knows what any organization will look like in that period of time. Not to mention that top prospects get traded around like baseball cards all the time. It's just disheartening to be really happy for one of my guys and see people who have no idea who he is call him garbage because their team drafted a catcher two years ago, but people are stupid, so it should be expected. "Never read the comment section" is something I say all the time, I just need to follow my own advice.

Patrick was offered around 800k out of high school but turned it down to play at STATE for 3 years and now he will make millions. Let that be a good lesson if you have talent and believe in yourself you can develop your skills in college along with getting a good education and have a much greater chance of getting to the show.

It's safe to say that @MarkPacker is a big fan of Patrick Bailey going to the Giants .

OFFICIAL: Buster Posey has opted out of the 2020 season. #SFGiants https://t.co/wd9VE9219l

Buster Posey and his wife are adopting identical twin girls. That is why he has missed time in camp. The twins were born prematurely and stable but will be in NICU for some time. He is opting out of the season.

Smart move for Buster. I would hope the Giants don't rush Bailey too fast but this will certainly get him more looks. Guessing they would prefer to pick up a vet looking for a job to keep Bailey and maybe even Bart down to develop.
