RALEIGH – Seventh-year head coach Wes Moore and the 14th-ranked NC State women’s basketball team picked up an impressive new class of future Wolfpackers during the first day of the early signing period on Wednesday, as two high school student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to join the Wolfpack beginning with the 2020-21 season.

NC State received official commitments from Genesis Bryant and Dontavia Waggoner on Wednesday. The Wolfpack’s class is currently ranked 17th nationally by Prospects Nation.

Wes Moore On Bryant: “Genesis is dynamite in a small package.  She has the ability to score the ball in a variety of ways. During the past two years at Lovejoy, she has been on the verge of being a very rare 90-50-40 player (FT%-FG%-3FG%). Her willingness to take a charge against any player on the court is a testament to her toughness and competitive nature. Bottom line, Gen brings a winner’s mentality to the Wolfpack!”

Dontavia Waggoner | 6-0 Guard | Nashville, Tenn. | The Ensworth School
ESPN scouts grade of 93 and four stars … Prospect Nation’s 35th-ranked player and eighth-ranked guard in the class of 2020 … 2020 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Girls High School Trophy Watch List … 2019 TSSAA Division 2 state champion … 2019 USA Today Second Team All-Tennessee … 2019 Division 2AA Girls Basketball Player of the Year … 2019 All-Divisions Girls Basketball Player of the Year … 2019 Ms. Tennessee Basketball and Division 2 All-American … 2019 State Tournament MVP … 2019 All-State Tournament Team … 2019 All-Region Team … 2018 Ms. Tennessee Basketball Finalist and Division 2 All-American … 2018 All-State Tournament Team … 2017 TSSAA Division II state champion … 2017 All-State Tournament Team.

Wes Moore On Waggoner: “Dontavia’s great athleticism and strength has me excited to see just how far her game can go.  A prestigious Ms. Basketball winner in Tennessee, she has the skill set to get to the rim and knock down the ‘3.’ A potential defensive stopper and prolific rebounder, Dontavia is going to be a great asset on both ends of the court here at NC State.”
