FIBA U20 TRACKER: Omer Yurtseven

NC State sophomore Omer Yurtseven participated with his native country, Turkey, in the FIBA U20 European Championships. The U20 European Championships was held in Helsinki, Finland, and Turkey was in Group B which also included France, Iceland, and Montenegro.

Yurtseven played "up" for his country, as he just turned 19 years old in June, but he is certainly one of Turkey's featured players.

July 15: Omer Yurtseven opened tournament play with 16 points and 18 rebounds in a close loss against Montenegro.   

July 16: Yurtseven led Turkey to an 82-66 win over Iceland to improve the team's record to 1-1.  Yurtseven finished with 14 points (5-9 FG, 4-5 FT), nine rebounds, four blocks, and one assist in 29 minutes.

July 17: Yurtseven finished with 8 points (4-10 FG) and 11 rebounds in a blowout loss to France in the final game of pool play.

July 19: Turkey lost in the opening round of bracket play to Germany, and Yurtseven battled foul trouble throughout. He only played 24 minutes but managed to total 18 points (6-12 FG) and four rebounds.

July 20: Yurtseven was outstanding against Latvia, as he scored 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field.  He also added 14 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 assists, and 1 steal in 34 minutes, as Turkey won 75-57.

July 22: Turkey was able to get revenge on Montenegro, winning 80-72 with Yurtseven totaling 16 points (8-12 FG), 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 25 minutes. 

July 23: Yurtseven and Turkey ended the event with an 85-82 win over Ukraine.  Yurtseven finished with 23 points (11-13 FG) and 15 rebounds in the victory.

Final Tournament Stats: Yurtseven averaged 17 points on 61.3% shooting from the field.  He also averaged 11.4 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, and 0.9 assists.
