RELEASE: PACK9 Trio Racks Up All-Region, All-American Awards

Evan Edwards and Will Wilson of NC State baseball collected All-America honors from Perfect Game and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), while the duo and Patrick Bailey garnered American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Atlantic All-Region honors on Wednesday.

Edwards and Wilson were named to Perfect Game’s third team, while Wilson was tabbed a first team selection by NCBWA.

Wilson was named to ABCA’s All-Region First Team, while Bailey and Edwards earned second team honors. Wilson is up for consideration for ABCA/Rawlings’ Division I All-America Team, which will be announced June 15.

Bailey has been the Wolfpack's primary backstop with 60 starts on the season. He compiled a .288 clip with 68 hits, 17 doubles, 10 homers and a .513 slugging percentage. Defensively, he committed just five errors in 476 chances for a .989 fielding percentage and has thrown out 33 percent of base runners attempting to swipe a bag.

This is the second-straight season Bailey has been named an all-region selection. He recently earned First Team All-ACC honors and was named one of 14 semifinalists for the Buster Posey Award, which honors the nation's best catcher.

Last month, Bailey was announced to USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team roster.

For Edwards, these are the first All-America and all-region nods of his career. He was an All-ACC Third Team selection and taken in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins.

Edwards was one of two players in the nation this year to have started every game for his team and not commit an error, joining Cincinnati’s Jeremy Johnston. He also held a 35-game reached base safely streak and reached in 57 of a possible 61.

He led the team with 60 runs batted in, 51 walks and a .455 on-base percentage, and finished second in batting average (.330), runs scored (59), hits (76), doubles (17), home runs (14), total bases (139) and slugging percentage (.604). Additionally, he ranks among the top 15 in the Atlantic Coast Conference in all 10 offensive categories.

Will Wilson | Jr. | SS | Kings Mountain, N.C.

For Wilson, these are his third and fourth All-America honors of the 2019 season as he was recently named to Collegiate Baseball's second team and Baseball America’s first team. Additionally, this is the first all-region mention of his career.

Last week, Wilson was drafted as the No. 15 overall pick to the Los Angeles Angels, becoming the first Wolfpack player to go in the first round since the duo of Carlos Rodon and Trea Turner in 2014.

In addition to his national success, Wilson was recently was named one of five finalists for the Brooks Wallace Award (given to the nation's best shortstop) and collected ACC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-ACC honors last month.

This season he led the team with a .335 batting average, 20 doubles, 16 home runs and a .661 slugging percentage, and those numbers rank top 15 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Great for those guys, but especially Edwards. He deserved more recognition than he received this year. Really going to miss him at first next year.
