WATCH: Richardson Excited To Be Back
NC State redshirt junior tackle Will Richardson met with the media after the 49-16 win over Furman.
On gameday, nerves came a little at the beginning, but after the first drive, everything is just normal for me again.
It's a pregame ritual to get us going for the game.
Of course it was hard on me given that I couldn't play, but I felt like I grew as a leader a lot more. I couldn't play and had to help Witt get ready, we needed the redshirt freshman ready. I went on the scout team and gave the defense a good look for two weeks. I helped them get better.
Of course it was a hard time, but I feel I made the most of it while I was out.
It's alwasy a focus for the offesnive line to stretch your pads in the run game. Coach Ledford preaches we have to be the most dominant group on the team. We have to take charge ont he offense, get the offense going.
Running the ball was a big thing for us today.
When I came in, I had Rob Crisp here teaching me the nature of playing the offensive line, and I wanted to get on to Witt as far as what he had to do, keep his head focused, pick up blitzes.
They both are going to be really good. I see them doing big things in the future.
Opening Thoughts...
First game of the season, it felt good to be out there and back with the team.On gameday, nerves came a little at the beginning, but after the first drive, everything is just normal for me again.
What is the routine you do pregame?
Coach Ledford, after we finish stretching, he likes to get us hyped. My first game back, he was real focused on me, telling me it was my time. It's a pregame ritual to get us going for the game.
What was the last two games like for you?
I try to do what I can. I was with the scout team, helping out Justin Witt, trying to get him ready.Of course it was hard on me given that I couldn't play, but I felt like I grew as a leader a lot more. Five rushing touchdowns...
That feels amazing, especially being I came back and was able to contribute to what we did out there. It's alwasy a focus for the offesnive line to stretch your pads in the run game. Is it a silver lining... more depth now with Sculthorpe and Witt?
Definitely, this spring and winter, Joe and Witt did a great job working. You can always tell the freshmen dedicated to what they are doing and get on the field the quickest. When I came in, I had Rob Crisp here teaching me the nature of playing the offensive line, and I wanted to get on to Witt as far as what he had to do, keep his head focused, pick up blitzes.
