RALEIGH, NC -- NC State used three first half rushing touchdowns from Jaylen Samuels and another remarkably efficient game from Ryan Finley to blow out Furman 49-16 Saturday afternoon at Carter-Finley Stadium.

The victory improves the Wolfpack to 2-1 on the season while the Paladins drop to 0-3.

Samuels scored from two yards out with 4:46 remaining in the opening quarter to hand NC State the lead after an early field goal from Furman.

It was the first of several trips to paydirt for Samuels and NC State rushers.

JuMichael Ramos hauled in a 30-yard score from Finley to extend the Wolfpack’s lead to 14-3. After another Furman field goal, Samuels then scored from a yard out on a direct snap.

Furman answered with a 71-yard touchdown pass from P.J. Blazekowski to Andy Schumpert and the Paladins trailed by only eight midway in the second quarter.

The Wolfpack turned to Samuels once again. He scored his third touchdown on the ground, again from a yard out, to push the lead into double digits and NC State was never seriously threatened again.

Three of Samuels’ four rushing attempts in the first half reached the end zone.

Finley finished 22-for-27 passing for 231 yards and a touchdown. His completion percentage through three games is over 75 percent.

NC State allowed some big plays defensively but created some of its own. Kentavius Street caused havoc throughout the afternoon and recovered a fumble in the third quarter. James-Smith-Williams also recovered a fumble in the game’s final minutes.

Shawn Boone also joined into the action. His 47-yard interception return for a touchdown moved the Pack’s lead to 42-13 with 3:52 left in the third quarter.

Nyheim Hines and Dakwa Nichols also rushed for scores against the Paladins. The Pack had five rushing touchdowns in the contest.

ACC play begins Saturday for NC State. The Wolfpack will next travel to Florida State for a noon showdown with the preseason Atlantic Division favorites.
